Obama to Appoint Middle East Crisis Team on 'Day One'

(IsraelNN.com) United States President-elect Barack Obama said he will appoint a team immediately after his inauguration on Tuesday to address on "Day One" the crisis in Gaza, as well as other troubles across the Middle East.

"We've got a regional set of problems," Obama said in an interview with USA Today, noting the challenges in Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan in addition to the war over the Land of Israel. "They're not going to be solved in isolation. And we've got to be active in all these areas in order for us to be successful in any of these areas."

According to the report, Obama is planning a “diplomatic offensive, which could include the appointment of special envoys,” and which “contrasts sharply” with President Bush's approach to the region. “Bush put less emphasis on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict early in his tenure and tended to deal with Middle East problems separately,” the report explained.

Most Americans Blame Arab Side The most recent poll by Rasmussen Reports showed 53% of Americans at least somewhat confident in Obama’s ability to deal with the situation in Gaza, including 25% who are “very confident” in the President-elect.

The Rasmussen poll found that 56 percent of voters nationwide believe that “the Palestinians are to blame” for the current situation in Gaza, while 13 percent say Israel is at fault. Close to half - 45% - said Israel was justified in taking military action against Gaza, while 38% opined that the Jewish nation should have tried harder to find a diplomatic solution.

As in the earlier survey, Republicans strongly agree with Israel, while Democrats wish there had been more efforts at diplomacy. Half of those polled said Israel should agree to a truce now, while 26 percent disagree.

We told you so. He’s going to “confront” the problem, assemble some suits to stand around him and read from a teleprompter, as if Bush had not been doing this since 2001.

Paging Jimmy Carter!

Wouldn't be surprised if Carter is on that Middle East team or is asked for input. Other likely candidates are Zbigniew Brezinski, Robert Malley, and the Powers girl. Don't expect anything but anti-Israel, Hamas-kissing platitudes to eminate from his team.

They have not been in charge for a long time although they do a lot of undermining when someone like Bush is in the WH.

No doubt OBL is on that team...

That's if OBL is still alive, which remains very doubtful. Of course, there are plenty of others of his ilk to fill in for him if asked.

“watch for the signing of an agreement”

Indeed. But the Bible says he will “enforce” a covenant. Widely interpreted as “sign” or “create”. Maybe he just “enforces” an existing covenant. Maybe it means the land covenant for Israel to have the land (although Israel should only look for God to enforce that covenent, and which he will then break)

people are going to love the guy. I fear that non-saved conservatives will be sucked in. Certainly the McCains of this world will be along for the ride IMO

At least he’s not wasting any time in making futile gestures to go along with his empty promises and meaningless speechs.

Is anyone keeping a record of all of the things Obama is promising to do on "Day One"? My count:

1. Pass Freedom of Choice (Abortion) Act,

2. Pass 'stimulus' package,

3. Pass Employee Free Choice Act.

4. Close Guantanamo Bay

and now,

5. Appoint a Mideast Crisis Team.

That is one busy day, especially since we are talking about Day One, which is already pretty full with the swearing in and all the of parties in D.C.

Don’t we have a State Department to handle all foreign affairs???

Perhaps he wants these issues addressed by people not subject to Senate confirmation and oversight. We'll see who he appoints.

The liberals are really obsessed “ Ready on Day One” and “Smart” which in reality means that they are neither.
