I've been paying close attention for years, and I live less than two miles from 41's house. I'm not a friend of the family or business associate, but I think I know something about them.
The reason that George W. Bush, and his siblings, grew up in Texas, was because George and Barbara took the initiative to move West, away from their families, to make their own way.
In the 1940's and 1950's, there was a movement to "seed" western States with Ivy League grads, who would move out there to "the sticks" and then, spurs won, run for Congress. They were all liberal, and many of them were actually recruited to the "lifestyle" if you can call it that, by faculty members at their old almae matres -- Yale in the Bushes' case.
A very recent example of this Ivy migration is Sheila Jackson Lee, a.k.a. "The Queen of the Nile", who occupies the Congressional seat that would represent me, if I had a congressman (instead, I have an enemy). She is from Jamaica Queens, New York, attended an Ivy (Yale iirc), moved down here and got a job with Exxon in accounting, and ten years later was running for public office, a judgeship, in the 1984 races. She lost, but came back and challenged ethically-and-morally-challenged superblack Congresscritter Craig Washington, whose chief preoccupation was hanging with his Black Caucus buds and ignoring the Texas 18th Congressional District. She won, and it's been all downhill since. Camera hog and showboat, she's worthless -- but she conforms to the type I'm describing.
A whole lot of western congressional seats and other elective and appointive offices are, and have been, occupied by Ivy League liberals since the 1950's.
George H.W. Bush moved to Midland and went into the oil business with a former Yale classmate, Hugh Liedtke, forming the Zapata Corporation, which went on to become a respected oil company, drilling contractor, and commercial fishing firm. Accounts of Zapata's rise shows that they had help from former classmates and the "school tie" network. Zapata was a success, and then, after serving as chairman of the RNC during Watergate, Bush 41 began running for public offices, holding for four years the 18th District seat taken from him by Barbara Jordan. Then he ran for the Senate and lost. He went on to a series of appointive offices including ambassador to China and Director of Central Intelligence, before running for President in 1980.
From all accounts, they are nothing but gracious, and friendly, and their actions have nothing to do with noblesse oblige.
You are correct that they are gracious and friendly, but they do indeed have the sense of noblesse oblige, and they have sought to impress a sense of family honor on all the members of the Bush family. They are very, very proud -- "and don't you forget it".
Oh, I know they are proud people, and have instilled a strong sense of HONOR in their kids, and for that I’m extremely grateful to them. As I said before, they stand in stark contrast to Joe and Rose Kennedy and the brood they raised. The only one of that clan from whom I’ve been able to detect any sense of truly caring for others is Eunice.
There is one thing certain to go through Barack Obama's mind during the inauguration: at one point or another, while glancing at George W. Bush, he will consider the treatment that Bush got as president and hope to God he suffers nothing even vaguely similar. It can be stated without fear of serious argument that no previous president has been treated as brutally, viciously, and unfairly as George W. Bush....not least around here.
1. Rs didn't have the balls to argue for Iraq.
2. Iraq IS a success story.
3. Congress holds the purse strings. Bush can veto but it is Congress that is responsible for spending.
4. Rs like you didn't have the intestinal fortitude to stand up against the forces of evil - DEMOCRATS.
5. Rs like you bitch here but don't have the balls to run against the DEMOCRATS
6. Rs like YOU delivered Pelosie, Ried and Obama to this country.
7. Instead of bitching about Bush, bitch about Obama.
8. Rs like you will whine, “Oh, we can't complain about DEMOCRATS spending because Bush spent like a drunken sailor”. BS - Easy come back, you damn fool. Bush's approval rating was in the high 20s (two to three times higher than Congress, BTW) and it was so low BECAUSE OF his inability to cut spending.
9. See Rs like you are simpletons and deserve the likes of Pelosie, Reid and Obama.
Nice use of color. Very creative. Step over here and I’ll give you a gold star.
Please address the comments that I left: as the head of our ship of state, President Bush left the Republic and our country in worse shape. He blew our budget, our majority in the Senate, our majority in the house, our majorities in the states and finally delivered us to Obama.
Heckuvajob Bushie!
We conservatives are about accountability. Pres. Bush’s was disasterous for what we hold dear. Deal with it. Good guy, did some things right but net/net, we lost.
What exactly do you know about my ‘intestinal fortitude’ I’d bet that I donated as much $ and time than you have to Republicans and conservative causes. How do you know who I have stood up to.
As for my balls, what office do you hold?
President Bush and the Neo Cons that surrounded him took a calculated bet: that liberating a bunch of ingrates would be a winner for us. Well, they were wrong and we lost.
Deal w/ the facts not your infantile ‘who has bigger balls’ argument. You sound like a Democrat when you do that.

(If you need a translation, just let me know, Chogal)
You bitch about a Bush when he is in power. You bitch about Bush when he is out of power. In the mean time the Democrats get a way with murder.
Acount for that!
