What Are the Media Celebrating?
Washington Post ^ | January 20, 2009 | Howard Kurtz

Filmmaker Ron Howard was chatting in Maureen Dowd's living room, saying he didn't mind spending hours in the cold for the inauguration and that even his conservative brother had come to admire Barack Obama.

Outside on the chilly Sunday night, Tom Hanks decided against venturing into the jam-packed row house, mock-announcing to a small crowd on the Georgetown street that the party was paralyzed: "No more hot dogs! The Chinese food never got here!"

The country's big-name anchors, actors, commentators, news executives, producers, editors and scribes have been celebrating the quadrennial event -- and themselves -- at one glitzy gathering after another in the run-up to today's inauguration.

"It's turning into the royal wedding, isn't it?" asks Tina Brown, who threw a brunch Sunday at the Council on Foreign Relations with MSNBC's Joe Scarborough.

Every inauguration is a major media moment, with nonstop television coverage, newspapers churning out special editions and correspondents parachuting in from around the globe. But it is hard to envision this level of intensity if John McCain were taking the oath of office. All the hoopla has left the impression that many in journalism are thrilled by Obama's swearing-in.

Media Schadenfreude and Media Shenanigans PING

And yet they still deny there is media bias. This is beyond bias. It is full out Partisan Press agit prop.

Bush’s inaugurations wre treated like they were covering flu shot clinics.

HOLLYWOOD - MTV is saying that it doesn’t have time for President-elect George W. Bush. (By Mauricio Minotta Wednesday, January 10, 2001)

According to the Drudge Report, the cable music channel won’t throw a party to celebrate Bush’s inauguration next week in Washington, D.C., because there simply isn’t enough time to plan before then.

After hosting two consecutive blowouts for the Clinton presidency, can you say snub?

"Because of the extended election outcome, we don't have time to execute and plan the kind of inaugural event we've done in past and what people expect from us," MTV spokeswoman Jeannie Kedas said Tuesday.

MTV Inaugural Ball to Celebrate Change, Volunteerism (November 25, 2008)

MTV held no 2001 inauguration ball in part because the delay in deciding the election made planning an event difficult. MTV covered the 2005 Bush inauguration on MTV News, but it had neither a party nor a ball.

Jeannie Kedas, an MTV spokeswoman, said the decision to do a ball this time wasn’t a reflection of political parties, but reflects the involvement of youth in the election this time.

We’re celebrating that America is so NOT racist that we elected an empty suit our president because a sort of black man wore it.

What Are the Media Celebrating?

They haven't a clue. They've whipped themselves and half the country into an orgasmic frenzy, and none of them could articulate why. What's worse, is that even when Obama nationalizes the media, they'll still be glassy-eyed, love-struck sycophants.

They are celebrating that they put one over on the Republicans. “In your face!”

They care not that we will go over the cliff as a nation and the American Way is a thing of the past (our national identity and creature comforts are “wrong” because the rest of the world wishes they had them).

Did she throw waffles and ham sandwiches at the COFR and Joe or was Joe throwing food with her? Confusing.

The media is celebrating the fall of the United States, although I don’t understand why, since they still have to live here.

At work yesterday, they were fawning and fainting over all the stars that turned out for the Sunday orgy (I am sick of U2). They were talking about how "it's so wonderful that we can celebrate The Dream today, and tomorrow is the inauguration, and a dream coming true..." or something similarly nauseating.

Not being able to let such vomitous BS pass without comment, I told my co-workers to remember everything they were seeing and saying today. To remember all the adoration, the fawning media gushing about how everyone in DC was smiling and glowing, about how there was such a feeling of optimism in the air, etc. I told them to remember everything they were seeing and saying, because I would remind them of it when everything goes to sh** in the near future. You should have seen the looks they gave me...I love those looks!

This is a sad, sad day in American history. Not because a black man is being sworn in as president, but because a socialist who hasn't even proved he's a natural-born American is being sworn in as president. Those rocky waters we've been sailing into for all these years now? As of today, we're in 'em.

Scouts Out! Cavalry Ho!

Yeah, right.

There is nothing a true conservative would find even remotely admirable about the Zero.

Clint Howard is likely just a shade to the right of his idiot brother and thus, an Opie conservative.
