Val Kilmer Mulls Bid for N.M. Governor
Newsmax ^ | January 21, 2009 | Rick Pedraza

Actor Val Kilmer says he is strongly considering a run for governor of New Mexico in 2011 when term limits force Democratic Gov. Bill Richardson out after 12 years.

Reports that Kilmer is serious about making a bid for his home state’s highest office have been circulating for months.

In November, Kilmer told the New York Post, "There's sort of a rumor around that I'm maybe thinking about running to be governor of New Mexico? Well, it's sort of true. It's been my home for 25 years. I really love my state. Poor, hardworking, decent people — Native Americans, carpenters, artists, expats mixed in with hundreds of the world's smartest physicists at Los Alamos. I've always thought of myself as functioning as a candidate for them.”

At the Huffington Post inaugural party for President Barack Obama Monday, Kilmer again confirmed he is interested in the governorship and said Democratic Party officials have approached him to do so, but he did not name them.

“Actually, they’ve asked me to run for governor,” he tells The Hill. “People seem to want me to.”

Richardson supports Kilmer’s bid to replace him. In September, he told Starpulse.com, "I like the idea. Val Kilmer is a New Mexican, he was Batman. You know there have been successful actors going into politics. I haven't talked to him about it, I don't know how serious he is, but you know if he jumps in a race he's got name ID, so it can't be discounted."

Governor ‘Ice Man’. Oh boy, what is this world coming to? I always liked him as an actor...don’t know much about his politics, but I can guess. In any event, I never like celebrity being the basis for political legitimacy, though it seems to be all the rage these days. BTW, what happend to Val, it looks like he’s eaten everything in New Mexico.

Kilmer supports carpenters? Well, he’d better listen to what 0bama’s man Robert Reich says about White Carpenters.

He was spotted at a Huffington Post party in the article, so that gives a hint on where he leans. Maybe.

The stupid celebrities are taking themselves waaay too seriously. They think because they have an opinion and a microphone, they suddenly can run government. This is getting ridiculous. It’s not all their fault, the cult of celebrity created by the media and stupid airheads gave them reason to believe it.

Richardson said he was “Batman.” Hey I will take “the” Batman in Welshman Christian Bale. He once yelled at his liberal step-mother who was preaching to everyone at a dinner “someone please shut that woman up!” She often ponticicated at their dinners and he was fed up.

His mother-in-law is Gloria Steinem. His dad died a few years ago.

I heard a lot of people in Santa Fe did not like Val. He supposedly likes his pot too.

I know he’s really into his native American heritage, and given the history there, I can imagine he takes a leftist view of America.

He was best in Heat.

But then there he played a criminal.

Perfect for the Democratic candidate.
