A Georgetown source forwards over an email from that school's administration, reporting that Professor Marty Lederman's class will be canceled -- because he's joining the Obama administration.
Lederman, another former Clinton Office of Legal Counsel lawyer, is perhaps the most prominent of several high-profile opponents of the Bush Administration's executive power claims joining Obama, a mark that he intends not just to change but to aggressively reverse Bush's moves on subjects like torture. With hires like Barron, Johnen, and Lederman, Obama is not just going back to Democratic lawyers: These are anti-Bush lawyers.
Lederman has been, in particular, an early and vocal critic of torture, and has suggested Bush Administration officials have committed specific crimes in that regard.
Georgetown Assistant Dean Sally McCarthy emailed students enrolled in Lederman's course on "Constitutional Distribution of Powers to Congress and the Executive" that the class "has been canceled effective immediately for the Spring 2009 semester due to Professor Lederman accepting a position in the new Administration."
She continued, "We sincerely apologize for this late change, but we hope that you will understand the unique circumstances that caused this cancellation. If Professor Lederman assigned a book that you cannot return to the bookstore, please contact me about discussing a refund."

I am so sorry to have had to cancel our class. I was greatly looking forward to it -- there's no topic I enjoy teaching more, and I'm sure ours was going to be a stellar and provocative semester-long conversation. But just a couple of days ago I received an offer from the incoming Administration that was something I simply could not pass up. The timing was terrible, coming as it did in the middle of our first week of classes, but I suppose that's just the nature of the Twentieth Amendment!
I hope that all of you find suitable alternative classes for the semester. I deeply apologize for what must be a great inconvenience; I wish it could have been otherwise. I hope I will have the chance to teach some of you at a later date. In the meantime, best of luck to you in your classes this semester, in your broader endeavors, and, for some of you, your upcoming graduation.

I wonder what the Islamic terrorists must think when they see such foolishness. We have an administration that is actually focused on how not to harm them while acquiring information from them that could save lives.
