“I’m so excited,” the teacher bubbled, “I’ve just composed a song for the children!” The purpose of the song, the teacher explained, was to celebrate the results of a school wide mock election in which – surprise! -- Barack Obama had come out victorious.

Wow, now, more than ever, I am glad we have homeschooled all of our kids. Graduated 4 so far and one more to go. It brings me a sense of relief to see my kids know basic truths and so little propaganda. The stories I hear about public school Obamanization make me sick.

"I’m so excited,” the teacher bubbled, “I’ve just composed a song for the children!”

Ugh.

I do not care what she might have said next. That sentence right there sums up so much of my antipathy toward government schools. They're taxpayer-funded daycares. The children go and learn cheerful songs from bubbly teachers, glue macaroni noodles to cardboard letters, watch movies about penguins and global warming. Even if they were were not liberal hellholes, I can't imagine anything less enjoyable as a young kid.

My mother taught me to read and to do math, for about an hour a day in kindergarten through second grade, and the rest of the time? She read aloud Narnia and the "Little House" books. My sisters and I played elaborate make-believe games for hours at a time. No tv - but all the books I could want.

How have we accepted the lie that it's better for young children to be in a classroom all day? To go from structured activity to structured activity, ruled by a teacher's lesson plans and not their actual interests or desires?

My 7 year old’s class did watch the inauguration. Now I have no problem with that in itself. Its a good Civic Lesson, and I don't think we missed any inaugurations when I was in elementary school in the 60’s and early 70’s. But if I learn that they are being indoctrinated to worship “The One” I will put my foot down big time.
My son likes Palin, and told me as late as yesterday, that he wants her to be the next President. So I guess no damage was done from watching Obama take the oath. I got a smart kid there.

I do know last year in kindergarten he was being indoctrinated by someone about not eating meat. After school he asked me, “Dad, if I was a chicken would you eat me?” I asked him where did he hear that question and he said at school. Later that evening, as he was happily gnawing on a BBQ Rib, I turned the question back on him. “If I was a pig, would you eat me?” He looked up and grinned, BBQ sauce spread from ear to ear, and said, “Yep”.

Why isn’t there a greater outcry for a separation of school and state? Indoctrinating the Nation’s youth in the manner that the public education system does comes closer to establishing a religion (think global warming) than does any organized traditional religious movement. If you want to get a liberal angry show them film clips of German school children circa 1930’s singing Hitler’s praises.
