Former Gitmo detainees as new Qaeda leaders threatens "Why can't we all get along" terror strategy

US counterterror officials confirmed the ascension of one recent Gitmo releasee to the VP in Yemen's Al Qaeda organization. The news, along with recent reports of massive jihad recidivism among released detainees, calls into question Barack Obama's pollyanic views that the detention camp closure will suddenly make the world "like us."

The International Herald Tribune Once a dirtbag... reports that former Gitmo graduate Said Ali al-Shihri is suspected of involvement in a deadly bombing of the U.S. Embassy in Yemen's capital, Sana, in September.

In related news, the USS Cole bombing, both World Trade Center attacks, African US embassy attacks, and countless international acts of terror took place before the war in Iraq and Afghanistan, Abu Ghraib, Guantanamo, and GW Bush. Some scholars might infer that, as infidels, we've been targeted no matter what our world street cred. But I'm sure shutting down Gitmo, paired with unconditional meetings with world tyrants, will make us safer

Just think of the surging of al qaeda thugs when several hundred of them are released, with care packages no doubt.

The Pentagon has said that at least 60, possibly more of the detainees released from Guantanamo have rejoined terrorist cells and have fought once again against Americans.

An internet statement said al-Shihri was 'Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula's second-in-command in Yemen, and his prisoner number at Guantanamo was 372. 'He managed to leave the land of the two shrines (Saudi Arabia) and join his brothers in Al Qaeda'.

He joined the Saudi kingdom's rehabilitation program after his release in November 2007 and got married before leaving for Yemen.

Al-Shihri traveled to Afghanistan two weeks after the Sept. 11 attacks, provided money to other fighters and trained in urban warfare at a camp north of Kabul. A travel coordinator for al-Qaida, he also met extremists in Mashad, Iran, and briefing them on how to enter Afghanistan.

Saudi Arabia had asked Yemen to return Al-Shihri and a number of wanted Saudi suspects who fled the kingdom last year, while also claiming none had rejoined al Qaeda.

A Yemeni citizen, Naser Abdel Karim al-Wahishi, AKA Abu Basir, has been appointed head of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian peninsula, after members of Al-Qaeda in Yemen and Saudi Arabia decided to increase coordination between terrorist cells in the region, according to a message posted to Islamist websites. "We are preparing mujahadeen in training camps and they want to go to Gaza."

Al-Shihri, formerly residing in Guantanamo, is his deputy and travel coordinator.
