I thought you might be interested in this. I don’t think there is a fairness doctrine ping list on the FR master ping list. There should be one since there is a real chance that any fairness doctrine policy might touch the internet and Free Republic. If there isn’t one out there already and one of the old war horses on FR doesn’t want to do it, freepmail me and I’ll start one. We need one now more than ever.

Go ahead and do it. I have tried to get them to do something with conservative talk shows on the internet, and I have run into a brick wall.

FYI— the fairness doctrine only applies to the broadcast media — and maybe not even to TV once the digital transition takes place. The original idea behind the Fairness Doctrine —back in the 1940s— was that because the broadcast band was limited — only so many stations out there — it was important to give both sides of the political spectrum an equal chance to air their views. So, if the old rules were to apply, 50 percent of a radio station’s time could be devoted to conservative views, and the other 50 percent to liberal views. So maybe Rush, and the biggest conservative stars, wouldn’t go away. But I agree there should be a ping list. And I think we should deluge Specter with emails. He’s already got a craw up his you know what about this — and it might be enough for him to try to kill Holder’s nomination.
