Wichita woman accused of prostituting daughter, 5

By RON SYLVESTER The Wichita Eagle WICHITA |

A 48-year-old Wichita woman is accused of prostituting her 5-year-old daughter, and prosecutors say it wasn’t the first time.

Sedgwick County District Attorney Nola Foulston has requested a judge’s permission to introduce testimony from two of the woman’s grown daughters, who said she sold them for sex when they were between the ages of 8 and 14.

When the mother goes on trial, however, the jury only will hear about the 5-year-old whose sexual favors, prosecutors say, were sold to a man her mother knew for years. District Judge Greg Waller has ruled that testimony about the 5-year-old’s older sisters won’t be allowed at trial.

He said the stories of the older women didn’t meet the strict guidelines set by the Kansas Supreme Court for introduction of prior bad acts. Prosecutors said they were trying to show a pattern of behavior.

The 48-year-old woman and her friend, Reggie Stafford, 51, are charged with multiple counts of rape, sodomy and aggravated indecent liberties with a child.

Oh, ok... and what’s the statute of limitations on rape? {Statutory or not, and being an accessory?}

That’s just sick; that’s an argument of why we need to USE the death penalty.

“The key witness is now 7. She testified in a previous hearing that her mother took her to see Stafford on several occasions, and he performed various sex acts with her.

The girl said that in return, Stafford gave her mother $6 or $7, which her mother used to buy alcohol and cigarettes.”

Words fail me...

A crime that comes close to the slaughter of the innocents.

I am stunned that the sisters don't want to testify against their mother. If what they said is true why in God's name would they allow a new baby girl to stay with their mother.
If it were me I would do everything possible to make sure she was taken away and the mother exposed for the filth she is.

I am am the oldest child in my family and I would have moved heaven and earth to protect my siblings from this kind or any abuse.

It says their testimony won't be allowed.

I agree but they both said they would not, which means to me that even if it were allowed they would not do it.

Some crimes call for Vlad's type of cruel and unusual punishment:
Vlad III "Tepes" (the impaler) Dracula (1431 - 1476)

Defense attorneys Brad Sylvester and Sarah Flint said allowing the testimony would unfairly prejudice a jury.

“There’s not a shred of evidence, just words coming out of her mouth,” Sylvester said.

My little layman brain is confused, Mr Lawyer sir, isn't the testimony of witnesses evidence?

And if I understand the meaning of "prejudice", it means judging before examining relevant and available evidence. Thus, by seeking to hide such evidence, you are promoting rather than opposing prejudice.

The way I read the article, the older of the two sister was still willing to testify, and that both older daughters felt torn about it.

I would guess that the older daughters may have had a bit of a void of good moral examples growing up.
