A mother has given birth to eight babies in a hospital south of Los Angeles, the world's second live-born set of octuplets.

Dr. Karen Maples told KCAL-TV that the babies were born Monday at Kaiser Permanante and were "doing quite well."

The hospital says the mother, who asked not to be identified, gave birth to six girls and two boys weighing between 1.8 pounds and 3.4 pounds.

Dr. Harold Henry told KCAL that "they were all screaming and kicking around very vigorously."

Have you read the Gosselin's book? They're the ones who had twins, then sextuplets, and their lives are chronicled on a popular cable tv show "Jon & Kate + 8". Looks like, while it has been difficult for them, the blessings far outweighed the negative!!

Any time God brings a life--ANY LIFE--into this world, it is a blessing. :*) It is up to us (humanity) to treat those blessings properly, and not like property than can be tossed out with the trash. :*(

Average cost of newborn DIAPERS = average number of changes for a newborn is 12 to 16 per day for the first two weeks.

14 diapers x 7 days x 2 weeks = 196 diapers at $0.34 each = $66.64 x 2 = $133.28 per month.

TIMES 8 = $1066.24 a month.

Ouch!

Actually, clomid, the first choice of ovulations stimulation drugs, is pretty inexpensive.

Born at Kaiser. I wonder if Kaiser would have or pay for fertility program.

I am in the same situation, and I thank God a million times a day for granting me the privilege of finally being a mother to 3 gifts from God after years of believing I’d never achieve that seemingly easy thing to do for most people!! :*)

I know that’s bad grammar, I’m getting choked up a little here—sorry.

“I don’t see how this is a blessing. I had twins after already having one and said I wouldn’t wish it on my worst enemy”

I also had a baby when I became pregnant with identical twin girls. I lost one of my girls when I was eight months pregnant, due to a knot in her cord.
I think losing a child that you have carried for eight months, is something that I would not wish on my worst enemy.
I know kids can drive you out of your mind at times, but think of the alternative and count your blessings.

Experts around here can probably answer this better but I’ve read that because they are so tiny they can be injured during the birth process. CP.

The main cause of CP is brain bleeds. I guess it can happen from a birth injury. However, the main cause is being born premature. The more premature, the more likley there will be brain bleeds.

This is getting ridiculous. Now women are having litters.

Next thing you know, they'll have eight breasts.

I doubt it. This is usually from ovary stimulation which I doubt is cheap.

As Dave Barry would say, Ovary Stimulation would make a great name for a rock band.

You go to the ob/gyn saying, we’ve been trying but nothing’s happening. You are prescribe some clomid tablets and told to go home and ‘bo-di-oh-do’ at the right time...unfortunately at this early stage there is either very little or no monitoring—when you advance to later stages (intrauterine inseminations, in vitro attempts), the reproductive endocrinologist (a specialist in fertility, unlike ob/gyns) will monitor the patient with daily ultrasounds and blood work measuring certain reproductive hormones. The best doctors will cancel the cycle if there are too many eggs being produced for an IUI (artificial insemination).

{{{{{Hugs}}}}}

I’m so sorry about your loss. :*(

I had been praying to deliver my twins naturally but had to have an emergency c-section...turns out the cord was around my son’s neck twice and my daughter’s once, and it could have been very bad if I’d gotten what I wanted...I can’t even imagine the pain you have gone through and will always remember. Prayers for the Holy Spirit to comfort you in your loss.

Thank you for your prayers and kind words.

I also had to have an emergency C-section, so we could save her sister. We almost lost her too. They shared the same placenta, so when her sister passed, she was not that far behind. However, after a few scary days on life support, she started breathing on her own.

She is now a healthy happy four year old, that fights with her older sister daily. Even though they can drive me nuts, I really would give anything to have all three of them here fighting.

Give your kids an extra hug, because you are blessed.
