Conservative Leaders Call for Replacement of Human Events Editor

MEDIA ADVISORY, Jan. 27 /Christian Newswire/ -- Radio host and bestselling author Gregg Jackson and a growing list of other conservative leaders, lawyers and activists are calling on Eagle Publishing to dismiss editor Jed Babbin and take immediate and decisive steps to restore the credibility of Human Events. Among the names widely known in social conservative and pro-life circles are Dr. Ted Baehr, President of Movieguide; Ambassador Alan Keyes, former Reagan appointee and presidential candidate; Dr. William Greene of RightMarch.com; Coach Dave Daubenmire, talk show host and author; and Brian Rohrbough, President of American Right to Life.

The editor of what was Ronald Reagan's favorite conservative weekly, Human Events, Babbin only recently admitted in an explosive radio interview that Mitt Romney illegally instituted same-sex "marriage" and $50 government-funded abortions. He now claims that Human Events faithfully reported these facts to their readers, but when asked to support that erroneous claim by citing specific articles in the four years since Romney's illegal orders went into effect, Babbin angrily professed not to remember and abruptly hung up, ending the interview.

Listen to Jackson's revealing 12-minute interview with Babbin here! Jackson/Babbin Interview

On numerous occasions, Jackson and others had gone to great lengths to share Romney's far left wing record with Babbin and other writers at Human Events such as Ann Coulter, David Limbaugh and John Gizzi, but they all chose to suppress Romney's radical record in Massachusetts and in doing so deceived countless conservative readers.

Also in this interview with Jackson, Babbin adamantly asserted:

* that the unalienable right to life is no more important or fundamental than the freedom of speech or the right to vote--a statement that is not merely illogical, but is an accidental admission that he is not pro-life in any meaningful sense

* that America's founding national charter, the Declaration of Independence, is not part of the Organic Law of the United States of America--despite the fact that the U.S. Code (section XXXVII - LXVII, "Organic Laws of the United States of America" ) says explicitly that it is, and despite the fact that the Supreme Court has repeatedly stated that it is (astonishingly, Babbin is a lawyer)

* that the candidate whom Human Events endorsed for President, Fred Thompson, whom Babbin claims is "solidly pro-life," had "no choice" as a lawyer other than to represent the nation's largest abortion provider: Planned Parenthood

* that despite John McCain's support for taxpayer funding for both embryonic stem cell research and Planned Parenthood; despite his belief that babies in the womb do not possess a God-given unalienable right to life that no state may violate; and despite his opposition to a Human Life Amendment--the core plank of the Republican Party--McCain too is "solidly pro-life"

"For years conservatives trusted Human Events as a source of truth about what is happening in American politics," Jackson said. "Babbin's embarrassing and revealing statements in this very revealing interview are only the most recent indication of an ongoing purge of real conservatives and their replacement by social liberals posing as the heirs of the Reagan revolution," Jackson continued.

"As people listen to this interview, we expect awareness of the sad state of Human Events to spread through the grassroots just as the facts about Mitt Romney did, despite a concerted effort by Human Events and many supposed 'conservatives' to suppress it," said John Haskins of www.UndergroundJournal.net. "Eagle Publishing may well be too scornful of the intelligence of their own readers and too stubborn to dismiss Jed Babbin as the counterfeit conservative he revealed himself to be. But they face a continued loss of credibility which can only lead, ultimately, to the death of the publication."

The still growing list of conservative leaders, attorneys, radio talk show hosts and pundits calling for Human Events to dismiss Jed Babbin and chart an authentic conservative course for the future includes the following:

Dr. Ted Baehr, President, Movieguide.org
Dr. Alan Keyes, former Reagan ambassador and presidential candidate - AlanKeyes.com

"we" "got McLame" because of constant compromises of principle by the weak sisters who are known as the "leaders" of the conservative movement.

How so?

How much do you put on the early open primaries that let the other party decide GOP candidates?

How much do you put on the candidates themselves who chose to run, and those who chose not to run?

What "constant compromises of principle" led to McCain, and which "weak sisters" were responsible?

You only expose your own intolerance and rigidness Sounds like a pretty standard attack from the Left.

Sounds like your standard attack. Call anyone who disagrees with you a leftie, a liberal, a socialist ... whatever comes handy. Oh, and use quotes out of context, that always works wonders. it only proves my point - you are personally attacking people for not agreeing with you 100%, even when they are probably in 90% agreement. That is rigid and wrong. It is sad because you know that I voted for Keyes. Is that what a leftist does, vote for Keyes? Waste time on FR debating folks like EV? What's the point anyway? Who are you trying to impress? Yourself?

Here's a hint: Take a close look at the fruit of the last two years.

Yes, what was the fruits of Alan keyes' political involvement since 2004: He lost so badly in 2004 to Obama that Obama didnt even have to compete, but went around helping other candidates, which led to him being able to run for President. Now we have the most leftwing President ever, and all because Keyes ran a horrible 2004 campaign and failed to raise all the real issues about Obama and nip his political career in the bud. Nice fruits of your labor!

Maybe you can go after those Republicans in office, or maybe the Democrats who ran better (and in mayn cases dishonest) campaigns. I am one who tends to think the Democrats and the enemedia played at least a 50% role in Democrat/liberals winning in 2008. The last group you should go after are folks like Jed Babbin.

Why? It’s people like Babbin who are making what you describe possible.

“If the conservative movement doesn’t get its priorities straight”

Yes, and in attacking Jed Babbin your priorities are completely wrong.

e.g. chastising him over whether he agrees 100% with your characterization of what Fred Thompson did in a few hours of work for Planned Parenthood 20 years ago, phew, what an angel-on-pinhead mind-blowing waste of time, as Thompson’s candidacy is over, and now the Democrats have the Freedom of Choice Act, ready to blow away the entire GENERATION of pro-life action in USA in a single bill!

The opponents we face run the New York Times, the Congress and the White House ... not Human Events.

“the Left will have no real opposition”
Because Babbin dares to be a strong conservative voice that doesnt cater to your whims, he’s no real opposition.
Pretty arrogant for a bunch of folks who have managed to be pretty marginal.

You know, if you are so great - LEAD. Go out there and win some victories for conservatives. Just stop beating up other conservatives for being failures. Show by your EXAMPLE what success is and how to get it.

attacking other conservatives is just beyond stupid.

There you go again, attacking conservatives pointlessly and needlessly.

Jed Babbin is a conservative talk-show fillin for Laura Ingraham and an editor. Nothing he says is different or more right/wrong than stuff on FR or stuff in right-wing media in general. Blaming him for anything other than a wrong opinion or bad editing is beyond pointless.

How so?

I could write a book.

How much do you put on the early open primaries that let the other party decide GOP candidates?

It took me a very long time to see this, but the fact that the Republican Party is an open associate made it inevitable that it would be overtaken by the other side. If you live next to skid row, and put out the word that anyone and everyone are welcome to live in your house, you're probably not going to be wanting to live there yourself for very long.

How much do you put on the candidates themselves who chose to run, and those who chose not to run?

The list of those that I consider truly qualified to lead this country back from the destruction it's heading for is very short. That's my answer concerning both groups you name.

What "constant compromises of principle" led to McCain, and which "weak sisters" were responsible?

Simply put, the compromises of principle are the complete abandonment of Declaration and Constitutional principles. The weak sisters are a Who's Who of the Republican Party, its satellite organizations and press arms, and the conservative movement.

Jed Babbin fought tooth and nail to keep Obama out of the White House. He’s been there for conservatives on illegal immigration, the bailout and countless other times. He’s a strong conservative and a very bright guy. I’d rather have him watching my back any day than Alan Keyes.

Well said.

I’m sorry, but there’s nothing that can have its credibility restored by putting Alan Keyes in charge.

Human Events was once one of the few reliably conservative publications. If you have no problem with it becoming just another unprincipled press arm for the unprincipled hacks who now own the Republican Party, that’s your problem.

Enjoy Romney, and the other destructive forces who are going to do nothing to help restore this country, and who will subtly but surely empower the continued move to the left.

Your script is simple: X doesnt agree with me 100% therefore X is evil/bad/wrong/too liberal. So you attack X.

Never mind that X may be a good conservative or a center-right influence in a good direction overall and/or a lesser issue than O, the real dangerous / liberal force in America.

You constantly ignore the larger threats. Why? You are afraid to attack real liberals, like Pelosi, Obama, etc. Maybe you are a troll (nope) or you just don’t get how real political strategy works (Reagan rule - a guy who agrees with me 80% is an ally not a traitor) or maybe you just cant do the big leagues so do the pipsqueak Trotskyite splitter stuff (big fish in small pond syndrome). Whatever the reason, the result is predictable. You end up harming and dividing the cause.

Your actions of division against other conservatives are destructive and harmful to the conservative cause. You accuse Babbin falsely and blame him for things he is no more responsible for than you are (hmm, there’s an idea, maybe we can blame you for 2008 elections, it makes no less sense than blaming Babbin.)

Thus, you are engaged in precisely what you claim to oppose.

Enjoy your coterie of circular firing squad extremists and the other destructive forces who are going to do nothing to help restore this country, and who will subtly but surely empower the continued move to the left.

a center-right influence in a good direction overall

Your words betray you, and are actually quite illustrative of exactly what I'm talking about.

Sorry WOSG, but this mindset is exactly the problem. In a game of compromise, evil always wins.

There's me and Reagan on one side and you on another. I'm sticking with Reagan, thank you, and not moronic hair-splitters who go after a good guy like Jed Babbin.

""When I began entering into the give and take of legislative bargaining in Sacramento, a lot of the most radical conservatives who had supported me during the election didn't like it. "Compromise" was a dirty word to them and they wouldn't face the fact that we couldn't get all of what we wanted today. They wanted all or nothing and they wanted it all at once. If you don't get it all, some said, don't take anything. "I'd learned while negotiating union contracts that you seldom got everything you asked for. And I agreed with FDR, who said in 1933: 'I have no expectations of making a hit every time I come to bat. What I seek is the highest possible batting average.' "If you got seventy-five or eighty percent of what you were asking for, I say, you take it and fight for the rest later, and that's what I told these radical conservatives who never got used to it. - Ronald Reagan

Funny, considering the fact that conservatives are now getting ZERO, thanks to the compromised state of our "leadership."

No one can be perfect on all issues, but Babbin is great on the War on Terror, and is a leader in criticizing the UN and the EUnuchs. That’s why I support him.

"At what point shall we expect the approach of danger? By what means shall we fortify against it? Shall we expect some transatlantic military giant, to step the Ocean, and crush us at a blow? Never! All the armies of Europe, Asia and Africa combined, with all the treasure of the earth (our own excepted) in their military chest; with a Buonaparte for a commander, could not by force, take a drink from the Ohio, or make a track on the Blue Ridge, in a trial of a thousand years. At what point, then, is the approach of danger to be expected? I answer, if it ever reach us it must spring up amongst us. It cannot come from abroad. If destruction be our lot, we must ourselves be its author and finisher. As a nation of freemen, we must live through all time, or die by suicide."

- The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln edited by Roy P. Basler, Volume I, "Address Before the Young Men's Lyceum of Springfield, Illinois (January 27, 1838), p. 109.
