If they’re getting it in Arkansas, Missouri and Kentucky — like Oklahoma did in December 2007 — then no, “catastrophic” is not a strong word. That one of December 2007 in Oklahoma was the worst in state history and I’ve never seen anything like it before.
It sounds like they’re “getting it” east of Oklahoma, now. We’ve got a lot of ice right now in Oklahoma, but I’d say it’s like 10-15% of what it was like last year, in terms of severity. That doesn’t mean what we’ve got right now isn’t dangerous, but it’s not like 3/4 of the city of Tulsa out of power, some people for two weeks and major roads blocked and side roads blocked and every last single tree that existed was cracked or bent or broken...
You must not have been through any real severe ice storms before... :-)
Did they cancel Gore’s testimony tomorrow or is he still expected to tell our idiots in DC we are in global warming tomorrow.
Destructive Ice Storm Rivals December 2008 New England Storm
Here in SW Arkansas we are getting rain and mist. It is staying above freezing, but it predicted to be below freezing overnight and in the early morning with some ice probable. Later in the afternoon we are supposed to have “bright sunshine”.
I remember the big ice storm just after Christmas. The tree limbs and wires were a mess. There wasn’t power in town, much less for us out in the sticks. Fortunately, some fellows from Texas and Missouri worked very hard to get the power back up, but it took until New Year’s Eve. A week without power is no fun.
No, trying to get Janet to laugh a little if it is that bad at her place.....she reads like she’s really scared... actually I rarely get bored with exception to Network programming, having had a while back to solve a problem using Maxwell’s equations to hypothesize a sub atomic relationship (glad to get 1 C+ on that mid), John Kerry and other select politico’s talking but never saying anything (that’s frustrating and boring).....0 on the other hand is a serious cluster waiting to happen...like waiting and watching when that comet slammed into the Jupiter.....watching the response time of FEMA, people too dumb to get out of a toilet bowl when Katrina came in...nope never really bored...can always play my guitar to keep my fingers limbered up...drink some beer, watch some ball, garden, some days I just like FReeping
They may cancel it since the storm is expected to make travel too dangerous tomorrow in Washington D.C.
Hey Neighbor, I can guess where you live. I work in Fayetteville. NW Arkansas is a mess. I stepped out on my porch for a smoke, things were really quiet and dark.(except for limbs breaking) I’m in Benton County. Stay safe tonight - it’s gonna be a cold one.
Leni, I hope DC gets the worse ice storm ever just to keep AlBearManPig from speaking.....serious...I hate wishing that, but, maybe Mother Nature will just dump 8 inches of flakes as not to damage those cherry trees.
Its colder than a well diggers ass!
Quiet thy mind and drift away from here.
I remember that! You must be as old as dirt—just like me!
The folks hung Mussolini and his gf in the public square. Their tongues were black. I saw it in the newsreel at the local movie theater. I was about 9 years old.
Wow
Not a pilot but believe the colors have to do with IFR vs VFR flight rules...If I’m wrong I’m sure someone will correct me...
shucks, I always enjoy watching him make these pronouncements on the coldest day of the year.
LITTLE ROCK, Ark. Tree limbs snapped with a sound like gunshots, blacking out thousands of homes and businesses, and schools and government offices were closed Tuesday as a major storm spread a glaze of ice and snow from the southern Plains to the East Coast.
A couple of inches of ice doesn't help, either.
That was a bad one. My daughters go to college in Oklahoma, and catastrophic is not to strong a word. I am about 100 miles east of Tulsa in Arkansas, I think this is about the worst ice I’ve seen here in 10 years.
.....0 on the other hand is a serious cluster waiting to happen...like waiting and watching when that comet slammed into the Jupiter
This storm is going to cause extreme damage for a long time....
Dat’s funny...I don’t care who you are....LOLOLOLOL
