GOP-Obama love affair fizzles

It was the love affair that could never be, President Barack Obama and congressional Republicans.

The two sides came together en masse Tuesday for the first time since Obama took the oath of office. Despite the niceties, both sides walked away spurned.

In many ways, Obama told the assembled Republicans everything they would want to hear, according to people in the meetings.

He promised to make tough spending choices in his first budget blueprint — “everyone will have to take a haircut,” he said. He told them he wouldn’t increase the size of government just to increase the size of government. He even teased House Minority Leader John A. Boehner about his golf swing.

Likewise, Republicans left the meeting with kind words for the president — but still resolved to oppose him on the floor Wednesday when Democrats bring his massive economic stimulus plan up for a vote.

Beneath the polite give and take between the new president and the newly disempowered Republican caucus, there was a sense that Obama’s honeymoon had already begun to ebb. For the first time, it seems, congressional Republicans, shut out of power and seemingly cowed by the harsh verdict of voters and wild popularity of the new president, are finding their voice, rallying in large numbers against the centerpiece of Obama’s agenda.

“... finding their voice, rallying in large numbers against the centerpiece of Obama’s agenda.”

Dear God in Heaven, let this be so!

Nah, the spineless Pubbies are just taking a break so they can switch kneepads since the old ones wore out from overuse. As for McQueeg and Grahamnesty, they are just playing hard to get.

It seems that the GOP is only against massive deficit spending when they aren’t in charge of anything.

Well its nice they are finally saying something, but they should have been shutting down the congress over Fauxbama’s pick to put a tax cheat in charge of the Treasury!

FIND YOUR SACKS GUYS! THat should have been an absolute showdown, yes you couldn’t stop the appointment from happening, but you should have been absolutely creating chaos to try to prevent it... you did nothing.

Cowards.

"...Loath to criticize a president who enjoys stratospheric approval ratings and the good tidings of most Americans, Republicans on the Hill are instead framing their overwhelming opposition to the stimulus bill as a vote against a congressional Democratic leadership that is far less popular than Obama..."

OMG: sense from Politic0!

I suggest Rush, the GOP and other sput up a big chart of the S&P 500.

Obama nominated June sometime 1360
Obama ahead in the polls Oct 1160
Oct 10 McCain behind in polls 899
Obama wins - day after 949
Current 845

Bottomline - anyone with a brain has zero confidence in O, Pelosi and Reid. GOP needs to hammer it home with charts. Newt turned it around by fighting tooth and nail.

Why is anyone in Washington afraid to oppose him based on poll numbers? I'm sure the questions in the poll are written so that any answer reflects a positive: "Since Obama has only been in office for a few hours, are you satisfied with everything he has done so far, which is nothing?"

Everyone would have to answer yes to that. Great approval rating of 89%

Clue to our spineless congressweenies: WE ARE NOT HAPPY AND DON'T APPROVE - worry more about OUR approval ratings of you than anyone else's of Bambi

What I have been doing and I encourage y’all to do the same is that I have been writing to the Republican Senate and House leadership. You can easily find Sen. McConnell’s and Sen. Kyle’s email addresses under Senate Leadership at http://www.usa.gov/Agencies/Federal/Legislative.shtml. Also on that page, the House Leadership. Rep. Boehner has an email set up but Rep. Cantor doesn’t so I just use the one that’s not for his constituents.

I’m encouraging the Republican Leadership to stand strong for Traditional Conservative Values and reminding them that the Voters voted for them because they expected them to be traditionally conservative.

I THINK that we’re making a difference because Mitch McConnell is beginning to grow a backbone. Keep those cards and letters and emails going to Congress.

If we don’t stem the tide of the Current Administration, We the People are in a heap o’ trouble.
