I hear you. During the big storm in ‘67 the bus was cancelled, but school was still open. We watched movies all day and left at 1:30, but the principal showed up, so school was officially open.
Now he knew how to handle ice ~ got to work at 7:30 AM in fact.
All the smart-alecs from NYC and Chicago didn't even make it in.
That's when I began noticing who could or could not handle ice.
he completely lacks any personal warmth. Has anyone ever heard him say something that was actually funny?
It's not snow, it's ice.
And no, you can't drive on ice any better than anyone else.

We all tend to get used to our weather but don’t do well out of our comfort zone. Here, below freezing , we close schools and freeways. It’s to protect people from injury. We don’t get enough cold weather to learn to drive in it. Northerners laugh at us but they don’t think it’s funny when someone mentions they don’t do well with humidity and high heat here.

Agreed. Here in Central Texas, we have tens of thousands of northern transplants. Every year, when things close due to ice, I hear a lot of them gripe about how stupid people here are, and that we just don’t know how to drive in “that stuff.” Oddly, the day after, the bar ditches are filled with cars with out of state tags.
I was in Iowa over Christmas, and I sure noticed any number of cars that had run off the road due to ice.
Some people don’t know the difference between ice and snow. Skill can help a person drive in snow, but it doesn’t help a whole lot on a sheet of ice in hilly areas.
Actually I don’t do well with the humidity and high heat here either ~ and look forward eagerly to the coming Ice Age!

But I'm not the President, and I've spent winters in both places, so let me say I know exactly what he means.
But it's not just Washington. I live in California where it only rains in the winter time. No snow, rarely ice, just rain. And when it rains people on the roads lose their frakking minds. Something a Chicagoan wouldn't think twice about causes people here to run into perfectly innocent telephone poles.
