Since the pubs don’t have a majority how is it that they get credit for nixing this bill?

They block cloture. The Dems have to have 60 votes to force a bill to be brought to floor for a vote. The Dems only have 59 Senators. Yesterday morning they only had 58.

Since the pubs dont have a majority how is it that they get credit for nixing this bill? I asked myself the same question, but the answer is straight forward. The AP has determined that it will be an unpopular decision.

Since the pubs dont have a majority how is it that they get credit for nixing this bill? You (and I) might call it "credit" but those who riot because they can't watch "Oprah" any more will call it "blame".
In any case, it took a two-thirds vote, and the Dems don't have two thirds (2010 here we come!), so they needed Pub help, and didn't get it.

Since the pubs dont have a majority how is it that they get credit for nixing this bill? For some reason--the article I saw wasn't clear--delaying the transition required a 2/3 vote. The GOP has over a third, and it voted nay.

They were trying to do some type of quick vote which skips all of the committees and general rules, but requires a two thirds vote. Usually it is reserved for things like National Gopher Appreciation Day rather than real legislation.

A “Motion to Suspend the Rules and Pass” requires a 2/3rd’s majority, so it needed GOP support to pass.

I don’t know, but I’m glad they did and do... the delay was a ploy to help Sprint over Verizon (according to an article I read last week) and had everything to do with money they gave Obama.
