Better yet, they can cut down on 1/2 of my mail, stop delivering the bills!
Ya know why?
Because the mail never stops. It just keeps coming and coming and coming. There's never a letup, It's relentless. Every day it piles up more and more, but the more you get out, the more it keeps coming. And then the bar code reader breaks. And then it's Publisher's Clearinghouse day.
Dear, Rawhide,
I just thought I would take this opportunity to remind you that your subscription to Golf Digest is about to expire. Why not sign up yourself and some of your friends now before the holiday season rush and take advantage of our $50 a year for 50 years special offer.
That’s just to justify another rate increase which will cut the volume down further and make them wail about increasing costs and losses.
Don’t stop there—let UPS, FedEx, etc. compete for the whole postal service package. I believe that we would see 15 cent FC, better service, and shorter lines.
Most of those “HC” routes in the west already get their mail only three times a week, in some places only two.
Ditto. Makes sense.
That's the only way they are making ends meet now.
You don’t send Christmas, Birthday, etc. cards?
The only thing I ever mail anymore in to return my netflix movies I get. If I watch a movie on Friday, put in the mail before they pickup on Saturday and have a new movie on Tuesday. Without Saturday service I would not get another movie until Wednesday. Do not take my Netflix away!
We used to be in the heart of Manhattan and got 2 deliveries a day. Then 1.
We moved to the Bronx and are lucky if we even get one. We can go 2 days without mail. You WILL see a carrier dressed in regular clothes pushes their mail cart and eating or talking on the cell phone. Forget about complaining. No one cares. This time of year we mail out catalogs. Sent my shipping clerk to PO with over 200 pcs in 1 shot and they refused them. Why? Because they weren’t in their nice white bins. These were not bulk mail, but first class mail. We’re talking over 2000.00.
They are the cheapest around for this kind of mailing but you get what you pay for. Rain, sleet snow etc. you won’t even see them. Next day if your lucky you’ll hear an excuse about how they were overwhelmed. BAD MANAGEMENT is my personal opinion. Get RID of them ALL and we’ll all get along. It’s been years since I’ve had the old fashioned “nice” mail man. Degradation of society I guess. They only do it for the pension and perks. I go to pain managment for bad back and half patients are mail ladies. (sorry ladies). Post office is a sore point with me. After 28 years at the same job I’m surprised when I get a timely delivery. I too, have gone to pay online etc.
My guess is that the “increasing costs” are almost exclusively personnel expenses. The unions have driven another American institution into bankruptcy.
RE: “Stop the mail on Saturday. Thatd be fine with me as I hate getting bills on Saturdays anyhow.”
*********
I totally agree — who needs mail on Saturdays? Around here (Los Angeles) mail/junk ads on the porch are like an invitation to burglars to come on in. Many of us have lots of errands or other activities plus the occasional weekend away that would make it nice NOT to find mail on the porch upon return.
Go ahead, USPS, dump Saturday delivery, please!
But that's too easy a fix....for the Fed's to think of.
They will just propose more money..............that's how they "fix" everything.
Ah, yes. The USPS. A favorite FR whipping boy.
Heads up on what may be coming down the pike, BGH.
I’m surprised nobody’s mentioned the union. Postal workers get a really killer package of benefits, much better than the average federal employee, and that’s no slouch. That’s where a lot of the overhead is going, benefits for current and retired employees.
One word for you...DOWNLOAD.
Thanks. So I guess they want to stop Saturday deliveries for homes.
That ought to make FedEx and UPS quite happy.
I've mailed over 600 items Parcel Post in the last year....and have had maybe 2 items never reach the address that they were addressed to.
I cannot complain at all...........
Something is fishy about the no uniform part. I could swear postmen (and postwomen) in Manhattan wear uniforms. Write a letter about this. I find that good workers at the Post Office take pride in their jobs and in the Post Office. I think you should look into the uniform issue and I’ll bet you get some action.
