Pledge of Allegiance Becomes Pledge to Obama
News Blaze ^ | 1/27/2009 | Alan Gray

A parent in the Clark County School District of Las Vegas, Henderson area reported today that his son, who is in 1st grade, came home yesterday saying that he didn't want to go back to school anymore.

When asked why, the boy said that during the Pledge of Allegiance the teacher put up a large image of Obama next to the flag.

Thinking that the boy might be exaggerating, the man asked his son if he was sure, and suggested that by "large" he might mean an 8x10 photo of the president. The boy apparently said "No, it is a large picture of Obama and when we are done, the teacher turns off the image."

The same thing was not done for President Bush last year.

After investigating this morning, the other parent reported that what the boy said was true.

At least three of the five classrooms have an overhead projector and as the children stand to recite the Pledge of Allegiance, the teacher turns on the classroom overhead and a full body image of Obama, with six U.S. flags behind him, comes up about 4 feet away from the flag that hangs on the wall. The screen is apparently around five feet by six feet.

In the image, President Obama appears to be staring straight out with no facial expression, just a serious look. All of the kids in each class faced the President, instead of the flag that hangs in the corner.

Local parents are up in arms over this situation. Teachers clearly do not realize the gravity of what they are doing.

If Obama starts removing good generals and admirals and replacing them with Wesley Clark types, we should be very afraid.

He doesn't have to remove them, if they don't have the balls to stand up to him. I'm thinking of the JCS who backed down to LBJ, and all that followed.

Well Biden is an idiot, we all know, but I do believe I’d take Biden over the O. I don’t think Biden would be handing out so much of that cash, especially to ACORN. And at least, we’d know he is not an illegal, and might, just might have the US’s wellfare at heart a little better than the O. And maybe, not want to play footsie with the terrorist.

Umm, you’re joking, right??

That is a photo that was created in WWII to show what would happen if we lost to the Germans, kids would be using Nazi salutes to the flag instead of their hand over their heart

Nope, you have your history wrong.

That was the original form of the salute during the Pledge, and it was the official form used by Americans until it was changed during WWII, because it was too much like the Nazi salute.

Ours came first, by over 40 years. The Nazis poisoned it, and we changed our form by government decree:

Reciting of the pledge is accompanied by a salute. An early version of the salute, adopted in 1892, was known as the Bellamy salute. It ended with the arm outstretched and the palm upwards. Because of the similarity between the Bellamy salute and the Nazi salute, President Franklin D. Roosevelt instituted the hand-over-the-heart gesture as the salute to be rendered by civilians during the Pledge of Allegiance and the national anthem in the United States, instead of the Bellamy salute. This was done when Congress officially adopted the Flag Code on 22 June 1942.

See many of the posts in this thread for details. The quote above is from here:

THis is the 1890's salute to the flag

This is NOT the salute those kids were doing, in fact, thaks to your post, I did some searching myself, and BEllamy's original recommendations were:

After leaving the pulpit, Francis Bellamy decided to advance his authoritarian ideas through the public schools. Bellamy wrote the Pledge of Allegiance for Youth's Companion, a popular children's magazine. With the aid of the National Education Association, Bellamy and the editors of Youth's Companion got the Pledge adopted as part of the National Public School Celebration on Columbus Day 1892.

Bellamy's recommended ritual for honoring the flag had students all but goosestepping their way through the Pledge: "At a signal from the Principal the pupils, in ordered ranks, hands to the side, face the Flag. Another signal is given; every pupil gives the Flag the military salute--right hand lifted, palm downward, to a line with the forehead and close to it... At the words, 'to my Flag,' the right hand is extended gracefully, palm upward, towards the Flag, and remains in this gesture till the end of the affirmation; whereupon all hands immediately drop to the side." After the rise of Nazism, this form of salute was thought to be in poor taste, to say the least, and replaced with today's hand-on-heart gesture.

I have to admit I never knew there was a two step salute, but to post the picture of the kids doing a SIEG HIEL salute as the plege is misinformative, it was a two step salute with the arm outstretched after a military salute

...particularly since it’s still our flag.

Good point. And remember, it has the word “GOD” in it. That must be an affront to so many people.

Your son isn’t the only one. My children find him scary looking and don’t like seeing his face EVERYWHERE.

Teachers clearly do not realize the gravity of what they are doing.

"Clearly?"

I think their presumed ignorance is far from clear.

in fact, I suspect they know full well what they're doing.

I have a feeling my son would be taking a trip to the principals office if they did that in his school.
