This is a memo from Speaker Nancy Pelosi to Democratic members sent after the stimulus vote yesterday. Pelosi is apparently panicked at Republicans success in uniting against her hyperpartisan actions in shutting them out of the formulation of the stimulus bill and in peeling nearly a dozen Dems off to vote in opposition.
Here is the full text of the memo leaked to HUMAN EVENTS this morning.
Memo
To: Interested Parties
From: Brendan Daly
Re: The Republican Problem
Date: January 29, 2009
The House Republican Leadership put its Members in another politically untenable position yesterday: trying to reclaim the mantle of lower taxes and small government -- at the exact time when economists of every ideological stripe agree that government investments are the only way to get our economy moving again and make us competitive for the long term.
So yesterday, while we are facing the greatest economic crisis in decades, Republican House Members ended up voting unanimously against:

Brendan Daly is Pelosi's communications director. She must be in a panic to put this "The Republican Problem" memo out to Dem members. LOL
That memo shows that her bunched up panties have more wrinkles than her upper lip. (sorry for the visuals!)
The dog caught the car. Now what?...
Nancy Pelosi is an incompetent, power-hungry bitch who needs to lose next time around.
I am so proud to be a Republican today! Go get’em guys....
wawawawawawa
You say leaked? Leaked my A$$. More like published.
Of course, Pelosi is not smart enough to write this.
Wow. Not a single economist left who isn't a Marxist redistributionist. Who'da thunk it?
Hahahaha!!! Awesome. You own that dog, Nancy.
Welcome to the era of post-partisanship.
I’d say Steny Hoyer’s fingerprints are all over this ‘leaked memo’.
Pass the popcorn....
For the GOP to take an ideological tack that is the wrong economic tack at this point could be bad for the US and bad for the GOP (as it was in the 1930’s and 1940’s).
I support the theory, but right now Keynesian economics is the right move. The nuance of wanting to avoid wasteful spending and spending period is definitely lost on voters.
Moreover, as much as tax cuts sound like a good idea, the possibility that they would be spent (thus stimulating consumption and growth) as opposed to saved is a not 100% clear.
If there had been any doubt the bill would be passed, I doubt that the GOP would have managed unanimity. On the other hand, the message sent is both good and bad. It is good that the GOP is sticking to its principles. It is bad that at present the message was one of blocking as opposed to coming up with alternative solutions.
As for Pelosi - she is what she is. I don't feel the need to write that type of language here.
Bubba has weighed in. Saying that this is going to hurt republicans.
LOL.
The spin is dizzying.
EWWWWWW!!!
I all most reported this as abuse...
I don't recall hearing about the tax cuts for 95% of Americans in the generational theft act. I'd have thought something like that would have been mentioned somewhere. What the heck is Nancy talking about?
“... politically untenable position yesterday: trying to reclaim the mantle of lower taxes and small government — at the exact time when economists of every ideological stripe agree that government investments are the only way ... “
And this is what I hate most about liberals. They make up their supporting arguments then present them as fact. Pssst, Nan, real economists will tell you, government spending has never, ever brought an economy out of recession.
From the memo..”Once again this week, as another Democratic President and Democratic Congress worked to address historic deficits and recession brought on by Republican mismanagement of the economy, not a single Republican voted for the legislation.”
You are so stupid Nazi Pelousey!!! DemocRats are the cause of the melt down because they don’t understand free market economics.
Why are the Republicans united? Because they saw what happened to their collegue RINO’s last election for their bi-partisan capitulation. Don’t give the demoRats ANYTHING!
People will soon understand why these “stimulus” bills are nothing but bulls#it.
Please don't use Leaked and A$$ in the same sentence.
Leaked, huh? Kinda like the Niagra Falls leaks, right?
Yeah, it reads too much like a press release / propaganda flyer to be a “leaked” memo.
They ARE in panic mode, though, because they don’t have ANY cover on their socialist spending bill.
WHEN it fails to achieve what they claim they want it to,
they will OWN the failure.
I’m seeing a pattern here:
The Irish Problem,
The Jewish Problem,
The Negro Problem,
(and so on, through out time...)
and now The Republican Problem!
LOL, they sure have a way with words.
The writer is a little confused when he claims economists of every stripe support this. Not true. Some do support big govt pork but responsible economists would point out that there is no stimulus in this package. Those ecenomists support real stimulus in the form of taxcuts for business and individuals but they get no mention in the press.
“Keynesian economics is the right move”
Couldn’t be more wrong.
“I am serious she is on something..”
Botox.
A hidden story here is that this vote was 14 votes away from failing. That’s almost as many Dems that voted against it. Amazing!
A complete and utter LIE:
Economists slam Barack Obama's stimulus package
The line from Barack Obama and Joe Biden is that all economists agree with a stimulus package to expand government spending. So they won't have been happy to see a full page advertisement in (January 28's) New York Times disagreeing, signed by around 200 academic economists, including three Nobel prize-winners.(T)he economists who signed the advert, funded by the Cato Institute in Washington DC, say that: "we the undersigned do not believe that more government spending is a way to improve economic performance. More government spending by Hoover and Roosevelt did not pull the United States economy out of the Great Depression in the 1930s. More government spending did not solve Japan's "lost decade" in the 1990s."
I actually considered sending money to Cindy Sheehan when she was running against her.
I wish someone would accidentally overdose her on botox so she can’t talk anymore.
Someone needs to inform Pelosi that she and her Rat allies have been in charge of both branches of Congress since 2006. No way they can blame the economic freefall and out of control spending of the last to years on Republicans. The media cannot keep this a secret forever either.
If they had the power,
there is no doubt in my mind that they would implement
“the final solution” for “the Republican problem”.
When other countries cut their taxes to stimulate their economies, we’re going to be late to the table.
Does this mean no more invites to post-partisan cocktail parties?
There is not an honest fiber in their crazy tortured minds. IF spending is the answer by their very words we should all be rolling in dough.
perhaps she meant
“ecommunists”
Agreed. Pelosi is too stupid to string two coherent thoughts together.
Now, if only the Senate Republicans had brass ones like the House Republicans. Me thinks they fell off a long time ago.
The Democrats want universal approval for their dubious policies. Why should Republicans provide them with cover? If Pelosi thinks her Democrat pork bill is such a great idea, why does she care what Republicans think?
This “leaked” memo is clearly a press release trying to spin that stimulus pig into something heroic. Say, Nine Percent Nan, whatever happened to the $700 billion you recently stole from American taxpayers? Where is that?
Human Events ought to know better than to asist Democrats get their partisan spin out. The “leaked” mem basically says this:
“Republicans are evil. Thank goodness we defeated them and passed this bill. This bill will save America and everyone agrees with us except those evil Republicans.”
There you go. Like many who have no idea about economics, you contradict without back-up. Com one tr6 give me some content. Or do you even know what economics are?
Olestra?
hmmmmm yummy
I spoke to a friend last night who hails from the left side of the asile. A nostly logical man lacking the rabid hatred shown by the left. He asked me why did every Republican voted against the package. I said simply, If this package works you guys can claim all the glory and bask in a complete victory, however should it fail, the MSM will not be able to provide cover for you guys. You will loose control of both houses in 2010 and the chosen one will be back in the friendly confines of Chicago ready to resume his job as community organizer in 2012.
You got that right!
FMCDH(BITS)
If its passage is so wonderful why’s she whining instead of tooting her own horn and laughing at the House GOP’s irrelevance?
Hmmmm, Nancy?
Depends?
You know when the Bunkers sang “we could really use a man like Herbert Hoover again” it was meant to be a joke.
I am assuming you didn’t get it.
Quite frankly, I really think they are on their way to it.
Or at least remove any kind of conservative thought from the culture.
She let this out to give out the talking points the media is suppose to spew to the public.
