So, comrade, what penalties do you propose that the government implement for non-compliant citizens? ( metmom)
^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^
I propose that the punishment be the same as that given to “non-compliant” government teachers and principals who promote illiterate and innumerate children from grade to grade! :-)

You were aware that the Dark Ages preceded the printing press? ( Or were you educated in government schools?)
By the way, the term “Dark Ages” is now passe.

The proposal was that we go back to doing it the way we did “hundreds of years ago”. Nobody said anything about printing presses.

So what’s the answer?
Are you in favor of federally mandated education and curriculum content?

Proud of that, eh?

Well? ....What punishment would you propose to dish out to non-compliant parents?
Metmom is asking a legitimate question.
I propose that it be the same as is dished out to principals and teachers who willingly and knowingly pass illiterate and innumerate children from grade to grade. ( These teachers and principals are LIARS. They are lying to the student, the parents, and to the taxpayer!)

The Federalist Papers were a **huge** best seller because the common citizen of our nation at the time was highly literate, and illiteracy was nearly nonexistent. Without government interference. Imagine that.

Well? ....What punishment would you propose to dish out to non-compliant parents?I'm not the one making the proposal to put all the responsibility on the parents. Why do I have to be the one who has to figure out how you're gonig to enforce it?

**You** used the term “Dark Ages”.
Geeze! I didn't go back as far as you did! :-)
You are aware the the Dark Ages preceded ( that means “came before”) the printing press.
Also...The term “Dark Ages” is considered passe.

What part of *we* didn’t you get? The *dark ages* preceded the USA by many hundreds of years. *We* weren’t in existence then.

Hardly a conservative position.Seems to be consistent with empowering the federal government to establish weights and standards. What's the point of doing that if you don't require that people learn to use them?

*************************************************************
Not that I can find. The requirement in some states was the towns of a certain size were required to support schools. Local schools supported and paid for locally.

Besides, that’s not federal either.
