So now, we taxpayers get to subsidize the purchase of larger heavier vehicles AND subsidize their recall and destruction too !!!

Don't forget, we're also subsidizing the auto companies that build them and that pay the UAW 85% of full pay to not build these vehicles. I'd hate to be a consrvative satirist - you'd never out-do the real democrat plans.

Slowly but surely the Washingtonians are destroying major business enterprises in this country ... setting themselves up to come to the rescue with a government take over. Auto, oil, health-care (read Code Blue, Health Care In Crisis by Edward R. Annis, M.D., for a chronology of government meddling that has ruined the American health-care system), banking, etc.

This creeping socialism, engineered by the political class, is resulting in an incremental overthrow of the government of the USofA.

Feinstein and Waxman want you to turn in your newer model SUV and Jeep so they can crush it if it gets less than 18 MPG.

If they give me a 19mpg, 2009 Cadillac CTS in exchange, then count me in.

Actually, I think it's a terrible idea. I'd much rather give them a list of the SUV's and their SOB's I've encountered in the past two years, and have them crushed.

Driver optional.

My Tahoe is an 05 and runs perfectly 16.5/20 mpg, I want to get a new one just to spite these people.

The program you described in that post paid for my brother, who owns a nursery, to buy a huge new 4x4 pickup.

With all the tax breaks his accountant figured it wound up being free!

It never saw any use in the business beyond plowing the parking lot in winter.

Why cut it off at 18MPG? Take it to 20, or higher.

Of course, if they waited to bring this bill out until gasoline is back up to four bux, they might get a better reception. Nobody hates their SUV with gas at a buck-sixty.

Yup...........I’d like to see them haul my 20’ stock trailer with a Prius. Or haul my fire wood for the winter. If they keep going, we will be like Russia. One car in each family, their choice and even they would have to give us permission to even buy one.
