The Republic of Texas supposedly put in their treaty when they joined the United States a right to secede. Now, it would be just like the U.S. Supreme Court to turn that entirely on its head - the same way a right to practice religion somehow turned into a right to prohibit religion.

But Texas has open ports, has natural resources - including oil, has their own electricity grid separate from the rest of the U.S. and plenty of land for agriculture and, of course, raising cattle. In other words, Texas could survive quite well as its own nation.

I know some liberal will point out that Texas takes more in federal money than it sends to Washington but I tend to ascribe that to smarter congressmen who know how to bring back the bacon.

When Hurricane Ike hit, you didn’t see Texans act like a bunch of welfare cases waiting around for Uncle Sam to arrive with trailers and debit cards. Most scraped themselves off, fixed their homes and went back to work. But when Katrina hit, Texans took in more Louisianan transplants than any other state and many of them chose to stay.

So, I’m serious. If Texas can make a peaceful secession from the U.S., I’m all for it. I felt that way even before the most recent election. I’m tired of people from Massachussetts, California and New York telling us how we ought to live. It’s bad enough that many of them move down here.

No reason to stay in a bad marriage that is only going to get worse.

Hopefully secession would be smoother than the last time.

The Union's got nukes now.

Texas is known as the Republic of Texas. It does not bow it’s flag to the american flag. When I was there for a SAS conference I noticed they fly at the same height and questioned that.
They have always maintained they have the right to seceed. And remember - the oil and refineries are located there. They have their National Guard.
When are Governors going to stop listening to the courts and congress that take away their land and resources. Every state has a National Guard to protect their interests. It’s time Governors spoke up to congress and told them to shove it.
Montana also says they have the right to seceed as well.

That might be part of it, but the main part is that we have good weather, and lots of open land. Thus we have, or had, lots of military bases, particularly Air Force bases, and Naval Air Stations. We have the largest, in terms of population, Army base as well. Add to that a fair amount of defense industry, (At one time Dallas/Ft. Worth alone had GD/Lockheed, LTV, E-Systems, Texas Instruments (defense group), Collins Radio and others. Most of those, while shrunken, are still around under one name or another.

If o tries to take away my GOD given right to be an armed free citizen, I would support the succession of Louisiana from the union.

I live in Louisiana, If Texas seceded from the union and Louisiana did not, I would gladly move to the Great State of Texas. I would be glad to join the fight.

I would rather be a felon and free, than unarmed and a slave.

Well All rightly then, need someone to start the talk over there.

On top of that, once Texas becomes a country, it can considered itself invaded from the south and go down and take take out the drug lords militarily. I doubt you would have the USSA as an allie though.

As far as a bloodless secession, I doubt any demomcrat would want to fight over anything less someone might get hurt and NOTHING is worth that!

I guess it will start when Zero starts talking about changing the Bill of Rights, which he already has hinted at. I want one of the (new)amendments of the new country of Texas to be: "No Work, No Eat. Period

Regards, keep a billet open for me.
