Collins, Snowe to meet with Obama on economic stimulus

U.S. Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe will meet with President Obama at the White House on Wednesday as senators struggle to fashion a bipartisan economic stimulus package.

Collins said she shares Obama's desire to pass a measure that will stimulate the economy, but she has serious concerns about the $819 billion package that passed the House last week.

She said she was been working with colleagues, particularly U.S. Sen. Ben Nelson, D-Neb., on a smaller, compromise bill that would win broad support.

"In addition to infrastructure investments, I believe the stimulus should include funding to help states avoid cuts in essential health care programs, tax relief for low- and middle-income families, tax incentives to help small businesses, and investments in energy conservation to help create jobs and reduce our dependence on foreign oil," Collins said in a prepared statement.

Indiana, Kentucky, Missouri, and Tennessee are so much nicer in the springtime.

We either get these two Rino twits, or two dims from Maine. Take your pick. That’s the ugly reality of it, and it’s not going to change in your or my lifetime.

Isn't the real problem they all know porkulus isn't going to work, and they need enough Republican sandbags to hide behind and take the bullets.

What a waste of perfectly good bags.

If anyone in Washington really wanted to stimulate the economy they'd put an immediate halt to all withholding taxes......for a year. Then bring them back at half of what they are now. Also, cut out any capital gains tax. Between the two; instant stimulus. But that's obviously NOT what they want.

“Why do these chicks come in pairs?”

In threes now, we got a bimbo from NH today. She’s very proud to be known as a moderate Republican. Gag.

One party always picks off the more moderate members of the other side. Reagan promised not too campaign against Democratic Texas Representatives in the 80’s and now Obama is courting Collins and Snowe.

The weird thing is he has a massive majority, unlike Reagan who needed the votes, and could probably pick off one or two RINO’s anyways to get the current stimulus passed.

If he has half a brain his more skilled economic advisors told him that the economy is a crap sandwich that won’t recover for another year or two and that recovery will be so weak that it’ll look like recession-lite.

The republicans should just let the bill pass without filibustering it. No economic *stimulus* bill will help the underlying cause of this economic crisis: too much borrowing. The democrats are going to be stuck with the blame; let them have it alone.

Why do these two RINOS have to meet with him? They are already on his team.

They will go down in history as standing against their own party and the country.

Yeah... The NH dingbat actually used the term “Reasonable Republican.”

I think Collins and Snowe are going to appear like Goldwater and Reagan compared to this sqish.

Attention Maine voters please kick these two RINO’s to the side of the road.We need real conservatives in Congress. these two should switch sides and become democrats.

Not for nothing but I always thought that Maine was a very conservative state.
