Wash. Times Exclusive: Obama Backs Out on Iraq Appointment
The Washington Times ^ | Wednesday, February 4, 2009 | Barbara Slavin

Posted on 02/04/2009 8:48:59 AM PST by kristinn

The Obama administration asked retired Marine Gen. Anthony Zinni to be U.S. ambassador to Iraq but abruptly withdrew the appointment without explanation, Gen. Zinni said Tuesday.

Gen. Zinni, a former commander of Central Command, told The Washington Times that he had been offered the job by the White House national security adviser, retired Marine Gen. James Jones, two weeks ago and that Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton confirmed the offer on Jan. 26.

"I started making arrangements," Gen. Zinni said, but became concerned because he heard nothing further from the State Department or White House. He called Gen. Jones Monday night and was told that Christopher Hill, the outgoing assistant secretary of State for East Asia, was getting the job.

Gen. Zinni said no explanation was given. "That kind of bothered me," he said. "I was told that I had it."

Tommy Vietor, a White House spokesman, said, "We have spoken to a number of extraordinarily talented individuals about serving in this important role, and have made no announcement about who will be the U.S. ambassador to Iraq.

"Obviously, the president has enormous respect for Gen. Zinni, and believes he would be on anybody's short list for a number of critical national security roles."

I’ve always referred to him as a rookie. And might I add, “clueless”.

He has probably paid his taxes in full and ahead of time ...

This, of course, makes him ineligible for a position in the 0bama regime.

The do nothing Senator has become the President that does something but everything he does is wrong. Obama is a disaster for our country and it’ll only get worse.

Amateur hour at Pennsylvania Avenue.

Obama and his people better get up to speed, they’ve been in office two weeks and the guy is already on TV saying he ‘blew it’ on an issue, something a President should never do.

The despots and dictators are licking their chops, and every country out there is measuring Obama up, and so far he’s looking pretty green.

The only fool out there happy about this is Jimmy Carter... He’s currently the worst President in history ranking below Clinton who was impeached, but if Barry O can blow it big time, Jimmy will get that second last spot. It will be difficult to do but if Barry O is worse than Jimmy Malaise Carter, the world is in for a world of hurt.

Bumper sticker I saw on CafePress:

“It’s takes a Jimmy Carter to create a Ronald Reagan

Come on 2012!”

I’m not sure who was the worst president in history. If you are talking about the ones who did the most damage to our country in the long run, then Woodrow Wilson, FDR, and LBJ are way up there. And let’s not forget Bill Clinton.

Certainly Jimmy was a terrible president, and his screwups in Iran were serious errors. The court is still out on his giveaway of the Canal Zone. So far it’s been OK, despite the Chinese involvement, but it remains to be seen what happens if trouble strikes.

Obama has a good chance to beat all of them at the worst of the worst game, with that we can all agree.

I never knew about. I can see how that issue would be another scandal for Obama. That said, you’d think the idiot should have know that before he nominated him.

everything he does is wrong

It seems we hear about at least one dumb idea every day. Our mayor is in DC lobbying for Porkulus dollars and we hear tens of millions will be dropped on our school districts. None of that will do a darn thing to get us out of a recession.

The naivete (a French loanword (adjective, form of naïf) indicating having or showing a lack of experience, understanding or sophistication) of this administration is breathtaking. It seems they are unable to handle the simplist of appointments without controversy.

Perhaps, since he spent his life "stirring up trouble" as a community organizer, that is all he knows how to do.

We will get the "trouble" he is stirring up, no doubt.

Now, remember when the left screamed about Zinni being “fired” by the Bush administration, when he was a normal retirement?

It will be interesting to see if any of the same lefties will scream about Obama hiring and then firing him.

Like Sen. Jim Webb, Zinni is a genuine hero who soiled himself for life by entering the American political cesspool.

Anybody checked his taxes?

Yes, his taxes were clean, and so he couldn't be considered for the Obama administration.
