Sometimes what seems like needless coldness on the part of a person, and especially a business, is really forced on them by outside sources.
Maybe someone can ask Tom Daschle about it.
It is true that debts do have to be repaid, if the funds are there. But they do not have to be repaid by ex-husbands that didn’t incur them, and were not obligated by a court to assume them in the divorce settlement.
The estate is responsible for the debt, not anybody else. If the estate doesn’t have the money, tough noogies for the landlord.
But, as you say, we have insufficient information to really judge.
Seems fair. If a disgruntled coworker shows up and shoots a bunch of people at random, why should they get paid for the full day?
