ACORN Protests Arizona Sheriff's (Joe Arpaio) Decision to Segregate Illegals

The community organization group ACORN is protesting a decision made by the self-proclaimed "toughest sheriff in America" to keep illegal immigrants at tents that house prisoners, separate from the rest of the inmate population.

ACORN has lambasted Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio's action, calling it a "blatant disregard for civil rights."

Arpaio announced Wednesday that he plans to accompany about 200 inmates -- along with members of the media -- from a Phoenix area jail to Tent City on Wednesday afternoon.

"Sheriff Joe Arpaio and the Maricopa County Sherriff's Department have routinely violated the civil rights of members of communities through racial profiling, retaliatory arrests aimed at silencing critics and the separation of families, while simultaneously neglecting our public safety needs," ACORN said in a statement released Wednesday.

Maricopa County Supervisor Mary Rose Wilcox agrees with ACORN, saying she thinks Arpaio could potentially be violating the immigrants' rights by keeping them separated. She said she'd like to talk to the Justice Department and have staff there issue an opinion.

Wilcox -- a frequent critic of Apraio's immigration policies -- called the move a publicity stunt.

This was my first thought. There are a lot of illegals who aren’t criminals, other than being here illegally, and it is courtesy to separate them from hardcore criminals. ACORN is a criminal organization that thinks everyone is corrupt like the members of ACORN, and they can’t understand that some people appreciate not having to be in the company of criminals. In their limited world view, they equate segregation with bad white people like Georgia’s ex governor Jimmy Carter. Arpaio should call his act of decency something else.

Although racial profiling is actually a good thing and should be resumed whenever possible, the good sheriff’s profiling here is constitutional profiling. The American citizen sheep who have constitutional rights are being separated from the illegal alien goats who have no such rights.

IIRC (and please correct me if I’m wrong) the only criminals in Tent City are convicted felons who have been sentenced to serve more than a year in prison. “Short timers”, like people convicted of misdemeanors or people awaiting trial who can’t afford to post bail, are housed in a conventional jail.

Wouldn’t jail be the ultimate “affordable housing”?

What’s the big deal? Blacks, whites, Mexicans and Southern Mexicans are routinely segregated from each other to avoid violence.

I don’t suppose ACORN or any of the other pro illegal alien regimes have a problem with 300,000 illegal aliens getting jobs in the dem’s porkulus package:

From: Roy Beck, President, NumbersUSA
Date: Wednesday 4FEB09 3 p.m. EST

Contact your Senators to stop stimulus bill from giving 300,000 construction jobs to illegal aliens

URGENT ACTION NEEDED ON FLOOR OF SENATE NOW!

Famed analyst Robert Rector of the Heritage Foundation has just released an estimate that the stimulus bill on the Senate floor would provide construction jobs to roughly 300,000 illegal aliens.

A Heritage Foundation release states that the travesty could be largely avoided if the Senate would adopt an amendment similar to one that passed the House requiring all recipients of stimulus money to use the E-Verify system.

Friends, it is imperative that as many of you as possibly can begin phoning and faxing the minute you see this. The amendments may come up for a vote tonight (but could just as easily be tomorrow). We must make sure that every Senator understands that a vote against an E-Verify amendment is a vote to use the stimulus money to hire 300,000 illegal-alien construction workers.

Is this a strictly one sided article with no comment from Arpaio?

I’ve seen documentaries on Arpaio’s prision. There have long been tent cities and not all of the prisioners housed there are illegal aliens.

FWIW, I just came across the definition of “ACORN” in the NetLingo Internet Dictionary. Here’s what it said:

ACORN

A Completely Obsessive Really Nutty person
(pronounced as a new word: acorn)

An acronym used in online chat, IM, e-mail, blogs, or newsgroup postings.

Thanks to http://www.netlingo.com for the info!

Notice how ACORN has become an “authoritative” force or “spokesman
we haven’t seen anything yet, wait until they get their billions from the stimulus package. They will recruit for his civilian police=army.
