Fourteen years after Dr. Joycelyn Elders was fired for supporting teaching about masturbation as a way to slow the spread of AIDS, the former U.S. surgeon general is still sharing her own fiery brand of straight talk, this time by likening the lack of comprehensive sex education in the United States to child abuse.
"If you don't educate young people and then they end up pregnant or with HIV ... if we don't provide health education for our young people it really is akin to child abuse," she said.
"We're a sexually unhealthy society," Elders said to a crowd of about 80 students and community members.
She cited statistics: one-quarter of young women aged 14 to19 have a sexually transmitted disease, 49 percent of young black woman have STDs, and each year 56,000 new people are diagnosed with HIV, more than 800,000 young women have unplanned pregnancies and there are 1.2 million abortions.
"And it's totally preventable," she said. "We have the knowledge, we have the necessary medications. We have the resources -- the condoms, the vaginal contraceptive film, birth control pills, the morning after (pills) -- but because we don't want our young people to know about it, we don't tell them."
"We've got to get over this (idea that) we can't tell them about it because if we tell them about sex they'll do it. They're already doing it. Let's stop running around trying to legislate morals and teach responsibility," she added.

Joycelyn's parents were guilty of "child abuse"--- when they had Joycelyn.

This woman is sex obsessed. Get a man, for goodness sake already!

What jerk-off.
If I recall correctly, her idea of sex ed would be akin to child porn!
Gawd, that broad creeps me our!
“Liberalism is just Communism sold by the drink.” P.J. O’Rourke
Why is the media still putting a microphone in front of her mouth? Wasn’t Ahmadenijad available to lecture us about the great Satan.
It is kind of funny though: Obama must be like “OMG, I can’t believe she is my people.”
Back in 1971 I was in the first trial co-ed sex ed class (held in the HS principal conference room) and believe me, its been down hill since then, you bloody idiot. The stats reflect the changes since the liberation in the 60’s sexual revolution. But what do I know? I was told by a 20 year old I was immature because I didn’t want to take a drawing 2 class and have to draw someone nude. Maturity? Same stupid lies I heard almost 40 years ago. But they work! Here, have an apple.
Oh my goodness, I just figured it out. The way to prevent pregnancy and STDs is to roll a condom on a banana. And all this time I was thinking you were supposed to put it on your, well, you know.....
“And it’s totally preventable,” she said. “We have the knowledge, we have the necessary medications. We have the resources — the condoms, the vaginal contraceptive film, birth control pills, the morning after (pills) — but because we don’t want our young people to know about it, we don’t tell them.”
Is this idiot serious? If there is any child in the United States who doesn’t know about condoms, they must be brain dead. Good grief, haven’t we spend billions of federal and state tax dollars buying them?

Ouch, Jocelyn, watch the nails.
I’m actually surprised Joycelyn could let go of her vibrator long enough to be seen in public. She was Clinton’s exspurt on matters like mass turbation studies. “We’ve got to teach those chillen to grab hold of themselves, pull themselves up by their boob straps and march off to a brave new group frolic.
What a cranium full of mush this one was/is.
I think it IS a man...
Mayhap you are right. LOL!
There’s plenty of sex-ed around, and the kids get the message loud and clear: Go ahead and do what you want, because there’s no shame in it anymore. That’s ALL they ever hear from the popular culture; TV, radio, movies, magazines, etc.
