I hate to be nit picker but that’s no longer a firearm, is it? It’s a club, perhaps a hammer, a movie prop, but it’s not a firearm.

It also said the object-formerly-know-as-a-gun was legally registered. Why would that be necessary.

I am not defending what the kid did. Purely foolish, although in his mind probably a good idea. I am lamenting the death of common sense.

Criminal Code, S. 88:

88. (1) Every person commits an offence who carries or possesses a weapon, an imitation of a weapon, a prohibited device or any ammunition or prohibited ammunition for a purpose dangerous to the public peace or for the purpose of committing an offence.

(2) Every person who commits an offence under subsection (1)

(a) is guilty of an indictable offence and liable to imprisonment for a term not exceeding ten years; or

(b) is guilty of an offence punishable on summary conviction.

R.S., 1985, c. C-46, s. 88; 1995, c. 39, s. 139.
