You’re going to be disappointed rather than consoled. It will never be his fault. Gear up for it. They will do the FDR routine on him: “at least he’s doing something while those mean Republicans obstruct his every move. Our Great Leader valiantly fights on, doing, doing, doing, doing, doing, doing, doing, doing, doing and doing some more. Ain’t he just great?”

We need to be clearsighted about this. They will use the ever-deepening depression and rising unemployment to their advantage. They will not get the blame for it. They will galvanize the nation to entrust even more of the economy to the government.

Unless the promise of the New Media finally comes to pass and the New Media channels of information can overcome the Old Media. That’s the battle we’re in. It could go either way.
