Rebellion is defined as open, armed, and usually unsuccessful defiance of or resistance to an established government.

It wasn’t too unsuccessful in Cuba, Haiti, Germany, Venezuala and others.

Nor in America in 1776. The difference between Cuba and Haiti and Venezuela and the United States is that they all won their rebellions. I guess your rebel ancestors just didn't want it bad enough. I mean, heck. They couldn't do what Haiti did? How embarassing is that?
