Newt: Obama speech was Carter-like
Politico ^ | Feb. 6, 2009 | PATRICK GAVIN

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich issued a sharp critique of President Barack Obama's speech before House Democrats in Williamsburg, Va.

"It shrinks his presidency," said Gingrich Friday at the American Enterprise Institute. "I thought last night's speech in Williamsburg actually was a lot more like Carter and a long way from Reagan."

The former Speaker's remarks referred to the more partisan tone adopted by Obama Thursday evening in addressing Republican objections to the stimulus package and to the President's assertion that critics want to return to "the same policies that for the last eight years doubled the national debt and threw our economy into a tailspin."

Gingrich said that the debate over President Obama's stimulus package has put a spring in the GOP's step.

"What has happened in the past two weeks has absolutely revitalized the Republican base in this country, because they looked up and saw all of the House Republicans collectively having the guts to vote no and thought 'Finally we're back.' And overnight, it changed the tone of the Republican Party."

The vote hasn’t been taken nor has it been reconcilled with the house bill. Claims that it’s over is nothing more than psy ops. The amnesty bill was a done deal the day before we killed it.

That said, it may pass but it needs to pass purely with democrat votes. They need to hang the burning tire around their own necks.

Bad choice of words. By we I didn’t mean the people like the ones here on FR. The rest and I can promise you there are MILLIONS. I’ve spoken to many solid Republicans who are ashamedly naive on what the is going on. They’re busy with the everyday lives and just trust that our 2 party system will make sure nothing crazy happens. The media makes it sure they paint a rosy picture.

I fight it as well, sadly we are a small minority.

Am glad I didn’t have the TV on to see S. Collins.
The Maine gals don’t have a clue.

The Democrats kept the Republicans out of the circle
knowing they wern’t buying except for the two or three dipsticks who are easily swayed.
