Crisis, Catastrophe: Are These Words of Hope? (by Charles Krauthammer)
Townhall ^ | Feb. 6, 2009 | Charles Krauthammer

Posted on 02/07/2009 1:51:10 PM PST by Clairity

A failure to act, and act now, will turn crisis into a catastrophe." -- President Obama, Feb. 4.

Catastrophe, mind you. So much for the president who in his inaugural address two weeks earlier declared "we have chosen hope over fear." Until, that is, you need fear to pass a bill.

And yet more damaging to Obama's image than all the hypocrisies in the appointment process is his signature bill: the stimulus package. He inexplicably delegated the writing to Nancy Pelosi and the barons of the House. The product, which inevitably carries Obama's name, was not just bad, not just flawed, but a legislative abomination.

It's the essential fraud of rushing through a bill in which the normal rules (committee hearings, finding revenue to pay for the programs) are suspended on the grounds that a national emergency requires an immediate job-creating stimulus -- and then throwing into it hundreds of billions that have nothing to do with stimulus...

Obama has adopted the official Democrat action plan:

When in danger
When in doubt
Run in circles
Scream and shout

He is right on the mark. This whole thing is being pushed through under the threat of not doing something - As if something, anything is better than waiting and thinking it out.

You would think that, after the passage of TARP I under some of the same rhetoric and the ensuing failure of this measure as evidenced by, at the minimum, making the problem worse and costing the taxpayer Billions, these morons would think very long and hard before repeating the same mistake in much larger proportions.

Let's face it, this is all about funding the Dems favorite causes and, in the process, strangling opposition.

Insurance adjusters usage words crisis and catastrophe

What constitutes a crisis? I should begin by defining what a crisis is.  The term “catastrophe” as defined by the insurance industry is not synonymous with “crisis” as defined in psychological terms. “Crisis” has a personal component.  As another adjuster pointed out to me this week, a crisis has more to do with the person experiencing the loss than the size of the loss itself or, for that matter, the number of people affected.  We might find that some people react to almost any severe weather event as a crisis.  However, certain events – for example a hailstorm – are generally not a crisis.  In most cases, no one is injured or killed.  For some it may lead to a personal crisis, but this will be the rare individual.  The hailstorm, however, could be declared a catastrophe because a cat is declared based on the expected dollar cost to the insurance industry.  Crisis has been defined as “an acute response to an event wherein homeostasis is disrupted, one’s usual coping mechanisms have failed, and there is evidence of significant distress or functional impairment” (Critical Incident Stress Management, Everly & Mitchell, 1999)

At first, Obama chose hope over fear. Now, he has chosen pork over hope.

Yep, Pork over hope with liberal doses of fear to grease the skids. Therefore, Hope takes a back seat to both.

That’s actually more accurate. He told us to chose hope over fear. At his first chance, he chose pork and fear, and dumped hope.

This bill WILL stimulate a lot of kickbacks for members of congress. And they will then pump part of this back into the economy by buying votes in their districts. And then the pol will give make-work jobs to their voters who will use their positions to do favors for the pol and their friends who will reward them with various favors. What a great plan to get that cash moving around!

The Gipper always, always spoke kindly, courteously and hopefully. Just hearing his positive-sounding voice always comforted, AND he could be depended upon to do the right thing or at least you knew he would honestly try. - Now, this guy to me is the Anti-Gipper. Scaring the heck out of us to pull an Alinsky-Ayers on us.

The hammer has gotten this one 100% right. I am glad I voted McCain—he’s a fool on many things but he would not have lead us down this pork pie path. This is what you get when you put a boy in a mans job. Its going to take a year before Obama learns his job—if ever. I fear our enemies abroad will not give him his learning curve. They are licking their chops on what screws they can put to the USA. I see things in the press that cause me to think Russia is cooking up some mischief. They will help us deliver supplies to our troops in Afghanistan—BUT AT WHAT COST? If we don’t go along with them—they can put the screws to us and shut down the supply line like they turned off the gas to the Ukrainians. I see bad times coming.

Keep hitting him, Charles! Don’t let up. Lately, Krauthammer has written some brilliant, insightful things about our glorious leader.
