MMR doctor Andrew Wakefield fixed data on autism (Phony data link between vaccine and autism)
The Times (UK) ^ | 2/8/09 | Brian Deer

Posted on 02/08/2009 7:53:58 AM PST by jalisco555

THE doctor who sparked the scare over the safety of the MMR vaccine for children changed and misreported results in his research, creating the appearance of a possible link with autism, a Sunday Times investigation has found.

Confidential medical documents and interviews with witnesses have established that Andrew Wakefield manipulated patients’ data, which triggered fears that the MMR triple vaccine to protect against measles, mumps and rubella was linked to the condition.

The research was published in February 1998 in an article in The Lancet medical journal. It claimed that the families of eight out of 12 children attending a routine clinic at the hospital had blamed MMR for their autism, and said that problems came on within days of the jab. The team also claimed to have discovered a new inflammatory bowel disease underlying the children’s conditions.

However, our investigation, confirmed by evidence presented to the General Medical Council (GMC), reveals that: In most of the 12 cases, the children’s ailments as described in The Lancet were different from their hospital and GP records. Although the research paper claimed that problems came on within days of the jab, in only one case did medical records suggest this was true, and in many of the cases medical concerns had been raised before the children were vaccinated. Hospital pathologists, looking for inflammatory bowel disease, reported in the majority of cases that the gut was normal. This was then reviewed and the Lancet paper showed them as abnormal.

Many observers note that the “enormous increase in the number of Autistic children” coincided with the enormous expansion of the definition of “autism,” which now means, “any behavior an observer finds peculiar or annoying.”

You are entirely correct. The umbrella under which a disorder could be classified as autism grew dramatically in the 1990s. The resulting increase in the number of autism diagnoses is the major culprit behind the perception of an autism "epidemic."

Nowadays, it's simply much more fashionable to say one's child is autistic rather than mentally retarded. If one's child is autistic, one gets to put a pretty magnet on the back of their car, and they get to become a crusader. However, if one's child is labeled as being mentally retarded, then one has to deal with a label that implies a more negative stereotype.

American vaccines no longer contain Thimerosal with the exception of the flu vaccine which contains trace amounts.

I will not get into the debate about what the studies say or do not say. I am not a doctor or a scientist. What I CAN say is that I have two little boys that developed 100% normally....until they got their first flu shot. Very suddenly they began having severe developmental issues. There is NO autism in either side of the family going back 5 generations in their father’s family and NO autism in my family going back at least 7 generations, yet I have two little boys with moderate to severe autism. Maybe a coincidence but I highly doubt it.

I think the Cornell study that linked autism with a big rise in TV viewing has some merit.

The growing brain can be over-stimulated and that can result in autism.

I spent my childhood in the jungles of SA, we had no TV and I never saw a single child who was autistic.

Yes.

DDT (”Silent Spring”)

Population “control” (”The Population Bomb).

Nuclear power generation (”The China Syndrome”).

Alar – apple scare of the 80’s (conpiracy of the clueless Left).

Global Warming (another conpiracy of the clueless Left).

“Not only that. It shows how the media took a single scary report, created an entire movement around it, and the scientific community completely failed to discover or correct it.”

That is the magic of the Drive by Media. Nobody is ever held responsible for the mess left behind after they reek havoc with the Obama worshiping, Oprah loving, give me my gubmint cheese masses.

Ah, Ioannidis. No doubt the most misleading title of any paper I've ever read. One quite naturally assumes that the word “false” in the title equates with “wrong”, and this is not the intention. If I recall (and I don't want to reread it), the paper actually deals with the Null Hypothesis and Type I and Type II statistical errors.

It wasn't just the media. There's a lot of tinfoil types on our side that want to keep our population unvaccinated.

We make vaccinations with sixty-yr-old technology because the pharms don't like to invest in them...because of the lawyers who promote crackpot dogma so they can cash in.

This physician (along with Don Imus’s wife) should be charged with manslaughter in the deaths of children who died from measles — in any cases where it can be shown that the children’s parents were persuaded by the doctor’s (and Mrs. Imus’s) phony data not to have the children vaccinated.

FYI, The data is nearly conclusive. Children of Nigerian blacks living in Sweden suffer 200 times the incidence (15% are autistic) of autism in native Swedes. The explanation is: massive vitamin d deficiency in utero and postnatal, food allergies to wheat gluten and bovine milk proteins.

Sound familiar? Global warming/climate control and the economic crises quickly come to mind.

Problem - reaction - solution.

Thesis - antithesis - synthesis.

“All were left-handed boys.”

“All five of my sons could be “diagnosed” as “autism spectrum” under the criteria our local school system uses. They’re peculiar, and sometimes annoying.”

****

This gets us into a slightly different issue, but perhaps the liberal “redefining” and corralling of boys has played a role in the “diagnosis.”

Our oldest son, my husband, his father, and likely his father before him are (were) Asperberger’s. One of our daughters who is a teachers says this: that neither autistics nor aspberger’s do well with relationships. The difference is that the apsberger WANTS to but does not natrually know how, but the autistic just doesn’t care. I am not convinced they should be lumped with autism, and from what I understand, neither do many “experts”. I do not think it is an autoimmune, it is just they way they are “wired”. If you look through history, knowing the characterists of asperbergers, you can see many example of highly successful people who likely were Aspbergers. They have a drive and a focus that is really unpararelled.

Take heart though, the Asperberger learns to live with it and adjust. My guys seem to do it with a series of complicated “rules” that they have devised on how to get along. Different than the rest of us, yes, but it works for them. I am not sure they really realize they are different, which has been good because it has forced them to adjust. After all, their fathers were the same, so as any young boy and young man, their father is their role model. Just remember that they just function within a set of rules. Once you know those rules, or can explain life to them in “rules”, then they adjust very well.

I did not know my husband when he was young, but watching our oldest, yes, it was debilitating when he was in school. It was not fun, not for him, not for me to watch. And from what I understand, the same with my husband. But, he has grown through it, and putting his trust in the Lord has made all the difference.

Funny, people who know them and can get past their pecularities admire their character as outstanding. And a more loyal person you cannot find in someone without Aspergers. Conversely, once you are disloyal to them, which they cannot comprehend, then you are toast!

Take heart concerning those in your family that are Asperbergers. Although they are often “quirky”, they have many personality traits that we can’t easily attain.
