Government and Media Seen Fostering Anti-Semitism in Venezuela, Elsewhere
Jewish leaders said it had never before happened in Venezuela: a break-in with anti-Jewish intent at one of the city's most prominent synagogues. A dozen armed men overpowered guards, spray-painted office walls with anti-Semitic insults, desecrated historic Torah scrolls and made off with computers containing personal information on congregants.
President Hugo Chávez condemned the Jan. 30 attack, which has shaken the country's political establishment. But Jewish leaders, supported by Israeli and U.S. officials, have said the populist government's often incendiary rhetoric toward the Jewish state, coupled with rising anti-Semitic diatribes in pro-government media, has helped foster a climate of intolerance that might have prompted assailants to target the Tiferet Israel synagogue.
Anger at Israel's recent military strikes in the Gaza Strip against the Islamist group Hamas have sparked demonstrations here and in two countries closely allied with Venezuela: Bolivia and Argentina.
But Jews in these countries are concerned about the growing anti-Semitic tone of the protesters, who frequently equate Israel with Nazi Germany, a theme increasingly evident on placards that juxtapose the Star of David with the swastika and in some public pronouncements.
In Argentina -- which has the largest Jewish population in Latin America, about 250,000-strong -- Jewish leaders describe a tense climate in which swastikas have been painted on Jewish schools, and graffiti demanding that Jews leave the country have been scrawled on walls. Protests have taken place at the Israeli Embassy, and demonstrators have also gathered in front of the InterContinental Hotel, which is owned by a prominent Argentine Jewish businessman, Eduardo Elsztain.
"It has created a climate of worry, a climate of terror," said Julio Schlosser, secretary general of the Argentine Israelite Mutual Association, whose building was destroyed by a bombing in 1994 that killed 85 people.

I wouldn’t worry about it too much. According to secular pro-abortion Republicans like David Frum and David Brooks, our society is too religious, too downscale. Especially those wacko Palin right wingers. So let’s get over religion. Let’s move the Republican party to the moderate, well-educated middle of the voting spectrum. Stop worrying about people who are worried about religion.

Considering whose in the WH, I fear the former, but they are first going to proceed with Ayers/Obama's plan to completely destroy the Capitalism system and install their Marxist dictatorship dream society, as spelled out in the Ayers weatherman manifesto, then afterwards the Islamic fundamentalists will change the legal system to a sharia law based one.
Ain't going to happen, just as the bible says. Europe, all of it, will fall to the Newest and last "Persian empire" which will be a new kind of religion, one based on Islam and eastern secularism. In fact we will get our butts kicked and loose all influence in the entire ME and Europe, and suffer damage on our own continent.
It appears "never again" has been changed by the leftist anti-war ninnies to mean "never again" will we fight to maintain our freedom", which means the new Hitlers and pacific Asia imperalist empires will rise again, permanently.
No one killed American Jews before, during (other than on the field of battle), or after. It's worthwhile speaking out, but as an American I wouldn't panic.

It’s weird, South America was the refuge of so many Nazis after WWII, including Eichman and Mengele. Nazis all the over place and only now the South American Jews feel threatened?

Hildy, I do not discount the real threat against Jews. But, Christians need not be confident that they are safe - there are folks who would like to see Christians or infidels wiped off the face of the earth. Old story. Christians have been persecuted for almost 2000 years. Read Martyrs Mirror or Foxes Book of Martyrs. Both are on line. The Christians contemporary foes are New Age, Satan, the UN or Islam.
