TOUGH TIMES: An old tax collector tells why they cheat (Geithner, Daschle)
Newsday ^ | 2/08/2009 | BY RICHARD YANCEY

Posted on 02/08/2009 9:02:29 PM PST by diefree

For 12 years I collected taxes for the federal government. I was a field officer, knocking on doors in every kind of neighborhood, from gated subdivision to dilapidated trailer park. I collected millions of dollars, some of it voluntarily repaid to the Treasury, some after a bit of friendly persuasion, and some only after I took something. A car. A boat. A house.

There was no profile of your typical delinquent taxpayer in the thousands of cases I worked. White, black, rich, poor, young, old, sick, healthy . . . the only things they had in common were that they owed money and I was the person dispatched to collect it.

The most common answer, "I didn't have the money," was the least acceptable. The service's assumption was that everyone had the money; the taxpayer simply had chosen to do something else with it.

Like buy food, pay for a warm place to eat and sleep, pay for expensive medical care, so on and so on.

Where is the line drawn that you pay the Tax and starve or not pay the Tax and survive a bit longer?

“But studies show that fear of jail isn’t what motivates most of us to pay our taxes.”

Oh, bull. just filed my taxes tonight, and I assure you, fear of jail is what kept me honest.

And, Ironically, I was using turbotax. It was underestimating my liability by about $3k, so I beat it into submission, until the numbers were correct.

I AM NOT going to jail for a flawed software program.

Amen, they have lost their argument of moral persuasion. It is just not going to fly any more.

I like this paragraph in the article

“How could I defend what to my mind is indefensible? The old revenue officer in me finds the excuse of Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner particularly laughable. You didn’t realize your income from a foreign entity was taxable? You, a denizen of the financial world, head of the Federal Reserve Board in New York? If his case were mine, I would have immediately referred it to the Criminal Investigation Division.”

In 1994, the first item in the Republican “Contract With America” was:

“require all laws that apply to the rest of the country also apply to Congress;”

They are better off dead in some fashion that their insurance will pay the beneficiaries.

‘Death of a Salesman’ Willy Loman.

Or they can become ‘radical’ and support a tax system that the Founders had envisioned, only better.

Bill Clinton made "giving Lewinskis" mainstream; the practice entered the popular American lexicon at every age level. Now Obama is doing the same for cheating on taxes.....bringing tax cheats out of the closet and into the mainstream of America.

Notice that once in power, liberals like Obama disdain "tolerance and compassion, political correctness, equality under the law," and all the other glib liberal notions. All of that does not apply ......once they get power.

Obama and Michelle and their crowd see themselves primarily as "deconstructionsists"------- with the goal of tearing down American traditions.

That's why they puposefully sought out tax cheats for Cabinet appointments ----- tax evasion is the plusperfect way to tear down the Nation.

Another Machiavellian facet.......Obama's flawed nominees not only populate our government with an insular cadre with shady pasts, but Obama fosters an ancillary benefit.............that of feeding the growing distrust and disconnect between Americans and our government, striking another blow against a system built on faith, trust, honesty and morality.

October 11, 1798, John Adams: "We have no government armed with power capable of contending with human passions unbridled by morality and religion. Avarice, ambition, revenge, or gallantry, would break the strongest cords of our Constitution as a whale goes through a net. Our Constitution was made only for a moral and religious people. It is wholly inadequate to the government of any other."

I see Rahm Emmanuel has been living rent-free at a Congresswoman’s house.
I believe this was exposed by Web of Deception blogger.
Sorry I don’t have his link offhand.
