Bush Chief Of Staff To Obama: Put On Your Jacket On....
Inside Edition ^ | Feb 5th, 2009

Posted on 02/09/2009 10:49:47 AM PST by TaraP

After a rough day at the office on Tuesday, 2/3, President Obama's fashion style is now coming under attack. Former George W. Bush Chief of Staff Andrew Card says the Obama dress code is way too laid back.

"There should be a dress code of respect," Card tells INSIDE EDITION. "I wish that he would wear a suit coat and tie."

Card is the first member of the Bush administration to bash Obama, and he's going after him for forgoing a coat and tie.

"The Oval Office symbolizes...the Constitution, the hopes and dreams, and I'm going to say democracy. And when you have a dress code in the Supreme Court and a dress code on the floor of the Senate, floor of the House, I think it's appropriate to have an expectation that there will be a dress code that respects the office of the President."

Card continued, "I don't criticize Obama for his appearance, I do expect him to send the message that people who are going to be in the Oval Office should treat the office with the respect that it has earned over history."

Former Vice President Dick Cheney has lashed out at Obama, saying he fears there is a "high probability" that the United States will face a nuclear or biological attack by terrorists in the future. "The potential ability of an Al Qaeda organization to get their hands on that kind of weapon and deploy it in the middle of one of our own cities, that's the ultimate threat. That's the one that would involve the deaths of perhaps hundreds of thousands of people and it's the one you have to spend a hell of a lot of time guarding."

Cheney argues the Obama administration is putting the nation at risk by closing Guantanamo Bay within a year.

In a round of Oval Office network interviews, the President took it on the chin for the failed nomination of Tom Daschle. Daschle withdrew his nomination as Heath Secretary because of his own personal tax issues. "I think I messed up. I think I screwed up," Obama said in one interview.

Meanwhile, Michelle Obama headed outside the White House, visiting a second grade class at an elementary school in Washington. The First Lady described to a group of children some of the special amenities inside the grand home. "There's a bowling alley and a movie theater! There's a florist shop and a place where they make candy and chocolate!" The children oohed and ahhed in response.

As long as he doesn't go with shag carpet and hang a bunch of those velveteen paintings on the walls, I can live him kicking back like a slob in the Oval Office. Who cares? He's a Democrat, and therefore nobody expects any better of him.

Let's just get through these four years and hopefully we can bring the grownups back.

I would trade him respecting the Constitution, for letting him wear overalls in the Oval office.

It has to do with the left’s inherent disdain for the 5th commandment -

honoring tradition and forebears is antithetical to their worldview.

He’s just so blasted SMART, you see, and knows better than all that came before him.

Hey, it could be worse. The last Democrat didn’t even wear his pants in the Oval Office sometimes.

Yes, of course.

He failed to gush forth with praise the ENTIRE time he was talking about “The One”, so he was OBVIOUSLY bashing him.

;^)

Barry has no respect for the office or the country.

The new "American flag" under Obama.

Maybe if he dressed properly, and wore a jacket, he would not have to turn the heat up. Kill two birds with one stone.

This is a silly non-issue and Andrew Card should just admit he was mistaken.

I long for the days of Ronaldus Magnus, who would not enter the oval office without a tie and suit coat.

Reagan would not enter the Oval Office without a coat and tie on.

Most of the time. I remember seeing a pic one time of him in his red shirt sitting at the desk in the Oval Office. No one else in there with him though. Maybe that had something to do with it.

So there! ;o)

President Bush always wore a suit and tie when he was addressing the nation...

I think dress is very important...You are judged by the way you dress as well....Part of the Job Interview...

Now I will agree with that.

And just to emphasize the point:

There are many things to get on Obama about. This is NOT one of them. It would be a different story if he was wearing sweatpants or jogging shorts in the Oval Office, like SOME people did (cough, Clinton, cough) but he's not. He's simply removing his suit jacket, as most Presidents seem to have done while, um, working.

No kidding - he could wait to get the family over to Camp David this weekend. Watching him board AF1 and M1, etc. makes it very apparent that he's like a child in a candy shop....wanting to take some of everything immediately. He is considerably more interested in his own satisfaction than in the American people.

It's so sad to see an anti-patriot in the Office of the President.

Reagan dressed casually while working in the Oval Office. So did GHW Bush and W Bush

Very rarely.

I think it's smart to get on Nobama early before he dumbs the code down so he's wearing sweat pants into work every day.

He's very capable of such behavior. He will act out of plain spite.

He has just become the President of the United States...

He has to earn some respect, even if it is the way he dresses..

Let’s have him wear a Flower shirt, Puka Shells and Flip Flops..I mean he is from Hawaii...

He needs to dress right IMHO..

Show some Pride for his Office...
