Bush Chief Of Staff To Obama: Put On Your Jacket On....
Inside Edition ^ | Feb 5th, 2009

Posted on 02/09/2009 10:49:47 AM PST by TaraP

After a rough day at the office on Tuesday, 2/3, President Obama's fashion style is now coming under attack. Former George W. Bush Chief of Staff Andrew Card says the Obama dress code is way too laid back.

"There should be a dress code of respect," Card tells INSIDE EDITION. "I wish that he would wear a suit coat and tie."

Card is the first member of the Bush administration to bash Obama, and he's going after him for forgoing a coat and tie.

"The Oval Office symbolizes...the Constitution, the hopes and dreams, and I'm going to say democracy. And when you have a dress code in the Supreme Court and a dress code on the floor of the Senate, floor of the House, I think it's appropriate to have an expectation that there will be a dress code that respects the office of the President."

Card continued, "I don't criticize Obama for his appearance, I do expect him to send the message that people who are going to be in the Oval Office should treat the office with the respect that it has earned over history."

Former Vice President Dick Cheney has lashed out at Obama, saying he fears there is a "high probability" that the United States will face a nuclear or biological attack by terrorists in the future. "The potential ability of an Al Qaeda organization to get their hands on that kind of weapon and deploy it in the middle of one of our own cities, that's the ultimate threat. That's the one that would involve the deaths of perhaps hundreds of thousands of people and it's the one you have to spend a hell of a lot of time guarding."

Cheney argues the Obama administration is putting the nation at risk by closing Guantanamo Bay within a year.

In a round of Oval Office network interviews, the President took it on the chin for the failed nomination of Tom Daschle. Daschle withdrew his nomination as Heath Secretary because of his own personal tax issues. "I think I messed up. I think I screwed up," Obama said in one interview.

Meanwhile, Michelle Obama headed outside the White House, visiting a second grade class at an elementary school in Washington. The First Lady described to a group of children some of the special amenities inside the grand home. "There's a bowling alley and a movie theater! There's a florist shop and a place where they make candy and chocolate!" The children oohed and ahhed in response.

Much ado about very little, IMO. Reagan dressed casually while working in the Oval Office. So did GHW Bush and W Bush. And of course, x42 did too. There are bigger fish to fry that what 0 is wearing.””

NObama made many speeches during his campaign about how we couldn’t keep our thermostats at 72, drive what and where we wanted, etc.
Now he sits in the Oval Office, not being respectful of same, with the heat turned waaaay up.
His staff excuses that with “he’s from Hawaii and he likes it warm.

What a putz. A total PUTZ.

And how is he not “dressing right” or showing “Pride for his Office”? Were all the other Presidents who took their suit jackets off in the Oval Office also being disrespectful? If so, why? How is a shirt and tie disrespectful? And why does this rule only apply to Obama?

When he is in the Public Eye it matters, just not for him for all Presidents.

So it matters for all Presidents? So you think Bush, Reagan, et al were also being disrespectful of the office? I’m just trying to clarify here because I’m detecting a distinct whiff of hypocrisy.

As I said Obama has just become President of the USA..He needs to show more respect for his office and one way is in his dress....Yes after he has been there for awhile it might be a different thing..

If you were to hired for a Job and during the interview you showed up in a Tie and Jacket which was expected of you, would you then show up in the next week in a tied dyed shirt?

He needs to make an impression for a bit longer than 2 weeks

"Most of the time. I remember seeing a pic one time of him in his red shirt sitting at the desk in the Oval Office. No one else in there with him though. Maybe that had something to do with it."

SOMEBODY had to be in there with him - who took the picture? :-)

As befits a man commonly referred to as “The Great Communicator,” words were sometimes not even needed to convey a principle or feeling. Several associates have recollected the experience of James Baker, Reagan’s first Chief of Staff, entering the Oval Office in shirt sleeves and neatly placing his suit coat on the back of a sofa opposite the President’s desk just a few days into Reagan’s first term. No words were spoken, no verbal reprimand tendered, but the look Reagan shot Baker told him that the formers respect for the Office of the President demanded certain rules of comportment and decorum. From that day forward, no one – not even President Reagan himself – entered the Oval Office without jacket and tie. Such was the reverence Reagan wished all to show the office looked to as the Leader of the Free World.

“Card is the first member of the Bush administration to bash Obama...”

“BASH”???? What Andy Card said was definitely NOT a “bash”. What they are saying is “don't criticize the One”; adulation only is acceptable.

I have nothing but contempt for people that wear suits to work!

It would please me if they made suits illegal to wear at any time by anyone!

When we had a dress code be it in the workplace the schools, church..People acted and presented themselves as respectful.....

The Dress Code failed in School and so did the Kids..

The Dress Code failed in the workplace and you had a multitude of Sexual harrassment cases...

Common sense dictates a way of dress shows how much you care about yourself and others who percieve you.

He’s a Democrat. Maybe we should just be thankful that he’s keeping his pants on and fly closed and not telling us all to wear a sweater.
