Mexico today seems like Illinois in the 1920’s times a thousand or so. Weak, corrupt government, rampant crime, political violence, economic turmoil; it’s all there. Depending on how you looked at it, either the Klan or the bootleggers owned the place. Law enforcement couldn’t be relied on, the average citizen didn’t see nothing. Whether it was the Depression or the end of prohibition that calmed things down is debatable. The FBI and the NFA of ‘34 grew out of it though. Mexico going down the tubes for real would be a disaster of the first order.
