NO HE CAN'T
The Liberty Republican Club ^ | 11/6/2008 | Anne Wortham

Posted on 02/09/2009 4:07:53 PM PST by mojitojoe

Fellow Americans,

Please know: I am black; I grew up in the segregated South. I did not vote for Barack Obama; I wrote in Ron Paul’s name as my choice for president. Most importantly, I am not race conscious. I do not require a black president to know that I am a person of worth, and that life is worth living. I do not require a black president to love the ideal of America.

I cannot join you in your celebration. I feel no elation. There is no smile on my face. I am not jumping with joy. There are no tears of triumph in my eyes. For such emotions and behavior to come from me, I would have to deny all that I know about the requirements of human flourishing and survival – all that I know about the history of the United States of America, all that I know about American race relations, and all that I know about Barack Obama as a politician.

Add a couple of atheists to the voted-for-McCain list. Speaking for just myself, I love my country. So much so that I was willing to sacrifice a few years in her defense. Unfortunately the people that see America as the media paints it outnumber those of us who can see her as she actually is. Or was, rather.

You wrote in Ron Paul's name? As far as I can see, that was one more vote for Obama. If all the Republicans who had stayed at home had voted, and all the Paulites stopped tilting at windmills, we might have had a chance. No matter how disgusted I was with McCain, he would have at least slowed down the abortion (sacrifice to Molech) road we are on. Even his words on the stimulus (Porkulus) bill have been on the right side. I didn't agree with everything President Bush said or did, but at least I knew which side he was on. And I know which side Obama is on.

All is not lost - not until they put a bullet through the back of your skull and roll you into a ditch. That said, you have some reason to be despondent since the only bulwark between the Republic and tyranny - Republicanism - has been compromised, gutted and betrayed for many years.

But . . . buck up - learn something new - something that will advance your personal independence. Act positively in your personal life and focus on developing your own plans and strategies to avoid what may/may-not wait over the horizon.

Fer instance, I just came in for supper after boning out a deer. Freezer’s going to be full tomorrow, but I’m always looking for more to put into it. Anything to save a buck, develop a skill, cut dependence, thwart collectivism, etc., etc., etc.

Your thoughts are reflected in lots of my friends as well as my wife and I. I will be forced to be nice to my daughter’s inlaws in a day or so. Pray for me! These people have Jimmy Carter books on their coffee table.

Once in the early emails back and forth, I sent the “You must be a Democrat if you believe”, and got the hottest rebuke imaginable When I insisted it was in fun and one should be able to use one’s brain to discuss issues, they just about exploded!

(Don’t confuse me, my mind’s made up comes to mind)

I wouldn’t be surprised if the country was headed for some kind of civil war.

This libertarian , a very devout catholic father, a very liberal feminist mother, a leftover hippie from the 60’s uncle, a 2nd wave d-day veteran grandfather, and a union public school teacher sister ALL voted for ‘grandpa Mccain” and “that stupid Sarah Palin”..........

....we may not AGREE on every issue but WE all agreed that Obama was VERY dangerous.........

I want to post this to everyone that comments.

I respect Anne Wortham and quickly admit she is right on the money about almost everything she has ever said but have to ask how many white Ron Paul supporters did you all compliment? All the kill the third party stuff I see made me curious.

“Don’t forget our history...........only 1/3 of the Americans in 1776 supported the revolution”

Thanks, Mick! I needed that. It sounds silly, but I was up all night wondering where would be a good place to live in the next decade, when push comes to shove. What state will stay true to conservative values?

“You wrote in Ron Paul’s name? As far as I can see, that was one more vote for Obama.”

You get the honesty award tonight. I wondered who would say it first. I liked Romney, it was really hard to vote for McCain but I did. I even hate to say it but I did. I like Palin (not ready to commit) but wanted to see Romney elected.

“If all the Republicans who had stayed at home had voted, and all the Paulites stopped tilting at windmills, we might have had a chance”

I think this means when O really screws it all up we get both houses and a perfect time for Duncan Hunter to win. Lets be real conservatives this time.

was IL going to be changed by this vote?

Aside from believe on voting 2-candidate vs. actual preference, you need to understand that if you live in a state which absolutely is not in play, your vote isn’t goig to change the election, the huge win the opponent is going to get, or the world. your conscience is the only variable. this isn’t PBC FL 2000.

That's a good question, Melian, but it reminds me of another quote from the revolutionary period that is apropos to our situation today.

Drinking at a bar in Philadelphia during the revolution, Ben Franklin said to his companions that he was such a lover of liberty that anywhere in the world where liberty lived was his rightful country.....Tom Paine, who was there matching him drink for drink, responded to his assertion by saying that if you were really a true lover of liberty than anywhere in the world where liberty did not live was your rightful country.A subtle but telling difference. Liberty must be earned. It is never a given.

I always liked that story, whether true or not, because it points out that we must be ready to fight for our liberty and conservative values even if we temporarily lose them. This is our home. Our ancestors came here to be free. There is nowhere else to go. And we if lose it we should not try to find it somewhere else but fight to bring it back where we live and where we buried our parents.

That's the only way I know how to answer your question.

I surely hope you are right, as that is what I want to believe as well. Then I talk to people I know, and I wonder, are there enough of us left that aren’t sheeple??

Personally, I looked past that, what was important was the rest of her screed. I think Ron Paul is a nutjob, but, again, I have to appreciate the meat of her essay, which is to me, basically saying she is not like the rest of the sheep.

I like this answer even better, Mick! Servitude is worse than death. I just still have not adjusted my thinking to the idea that the time to have to make these kinds of choices is upon us.

Thanks for your posts. They have encouraged me.
