Helpless And Hungry In Elkhart? President Obama Seems To Think So
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

President Obama seems to have a pretty low opinion of the resiliency of his fellow Americans. He opened his press conference this evening by claiming that the unemployed of Elkhart, Indiana have “no idea what to do or who to turn to.” What’s more, he claimed that the food banks there “don’t have enough to meet the demand.”

Does Pres. Obama really believe they’re clueless and starving in Elkhart, or was this just a pretext for the claim he made a bit later that at least for now, “only government” can solve the problems facing America?

BARACK OBAMA: I took a trip to Elkhart, Indiana today. Elkhart’s a place that has lost jobs faster than anywhere else in America. In one year, the unemployment rate went from 4.7% to 15.3%. Companies that have sustained this community for years are shedding jobs at an alarming speed. And the people that have lost them have no idea what to do or who to turn to . . . In fact local TV stations have started running public service announcements that tell people where to find local food banks even as the food banks don’t have enough to meet the demand.

It wasn’t the GOP that sunk the RV industry.

Yeah, if the people in Elkhart had any sense they'd have greeted him with boos and pies. His party singlehandedly killed their most prosperous industry. Anyone who went to see him and didn't boo him ought shunned!

What crap.

I lived during the Carter recession, right at the point of highest unemployment in the country.

The country survived that quite well without a giant pork package, and neither Reagan nor even Carter threatened the people with a great depression if they didn’t follow through with their policy recommendations.

I just dont understand. We are told we spend too much, we have to turn down the stats, stop spending so much frivoulous money, houses that are too big ect.... yet, the very thing they want us to do is spend money. They are tripping over themselves to throw borrowed money at us so we feel safe again and start spending. Now if this is not the definition of insanity, I don’t know what is? dont they understand we have to go through this pain, together, to let this work itself out. dont they know that eventually the prices will get low enough, people who HAVE money ( I dare not say rich folks) will not be able to hold back and start spending, growing, and building up the economy again. I heard a froot loop on his elkhart tour ask when the money is going to be in his mailbox???? Talking about trickle UP economics???? Nothing trickles UP my friend, but maybe if they didn’t teach that in these useless public schools, you would know better! Sorry, off my soap box, but one fact remains, stupid people shouldn’t breed........

I know where you’re coming from. A lot of us are pretty PO’d that so many people living in this country are willing to sacrifice their freedom for nanny state freebies.

People who can keep their own disposable income will buy recreational vehicles, thus employing people in the RV capital of the US. Barry needs a lesson in economics, and a refresher course in America's freedom to tour the country - not in Air FOrce One, but in their own vehicle burning gas as they please (something about pursuit of happiness). Crabby people are not usually found in an RV. He doesn't get it!

A couple years ago they did a drug bust at one of these RV plants. Got like 147 on one shift.

Meth was big big there. Hadta keep em’ working 20 hour days churning out those FEMA trailers that Obama voters liked so well.

Can you imagine the lunacy of promoting RV’s whlle he’s bashing SUV owners and carrying on about wasting energy.

And no one calls him on his idiocy. Because really, there is no other word for him. IDIOT

While he made it a point to say that the audience was not screened.......the audience was made up of RV dealership owners and employees.

Of course, it was nothing more than a campaign rally with it’s attendant pandering.
