A would-be robber was shot and killed Saturday morning in New Smyrna Beach as a store owner was opening up his shop.
The robber was shot twice in the chest by a security guard at the Medicine Shoppe pharmacy Saturday at 10:15 a.m.
Police said the masked robber entered the store at 653 N. Dixie Freeway, put a gun to the head of the pharmacist and demanded drugs.

Way to go Blart
give that individual a MEDAL
Well, the guard certainly cured whatever ailed him.
“Take two of these and call me in the morning.”
Worth remembering next time anyone wants to joke about security guards.
for 11 bucks an hour, this guy is going to face multiple lawsuits, frivilous or not, just for starters.
I’m just noting the reality here, folks, not passing judgement.
Another aspiring rapper?
You're bad.

With the economy being so bad....everyone needs to be ready for this type of action. But, he won’t be holding up anyone else, that’s for sure.
It’s been way too many years since I’ve visited that lovely community with “the world’s safest bathing beach.” When I finish my dissertation, I’ll need to take my family there again, and see if I can look up any old friends.
A plain clothed security guard. What a good idea.
A well deserved dirt nap.
That guy played it cool. He held all of the cards.
Evidently this robber hadn’t heard that one doesn’t need to place firearms to clerk’s heads anymore.
One simply has to ask Emperor Oprabama for their hearts desire and he will make it happen.
That was great. The guard biding his time until the target came into his sights. Well done.
Although there seems to be more of these pharmacy holdups lately, I’m really surprised it’s never, up to now maybe, turned into an epidemic. When you think that thousands of smaller drug stores contain minimal security and contain narcotics worth at a minimum at least $30-50,000 (street value)
We’re not talking about just pills either, they also contain IV morphine and many injectable forms of pharmaceutical strength narcotics that are many times stronger than the real thing. This does not even count the 1000 pill bottles of benzodiazepines (xanax, valium, etc) barbiturates, methadone tabs and even Methamphetamine on their shelves.
I fully expect the pharmacies of the future to resemble many of today’s check-cashing stores with video, wire-mesh cages and bullet-proof glass.
Action beats re-action. The guard had the correct mindset.
In my simple mind the question is why? You rob, you pay the price.
But in our everyone's a victim world, the story is different and you are most likely correct, here come the lawyers.
Any time your opponent is holding a pistol, you do not "hold all of the cards".
