it was kind of a rhetorical question, but I was curious if anyone knew if Herb has had a recent conversion to fiscal conservatism (like the remainders of the Republican party are trying to now that they don't have control).

Herb used to be the consumer affairs reporter for one of the t.v. stations in Philly years ago, he would have hidden cameras film shady businesses, say a mechanic who said he changed your oil but all he changed were the stickers - then Herb would go in and confront them with the evidence and watch them squirm.

I'm surprised he's positioning himself as a conservative now, he always struck me as more of a Nader type back then. On a side note the original Bulletin was the biggest paper in Philly before it went bust around '82, according to Wikipedia someone bought the name in late 2004 and started it in it's current form, I'll have to go check it out.

called for a ten percent cut in our military

actually that's false, he called for a 10% cut in the pentagon's proposed budget (i.e. wish list) not their actual one, standard negotiating tactic, ask for more then the other party is willing to pay then let them talk you down to the price you really wanted

Thanks for your reply. I ran across The Bulletin and Denenberg last year and liked the first piece of his I read, didn’t know a thing about him at the time. Since then I’ve posted many of his columns and they’ve all been conservative.

I did find out he’d been a consumer affairs reporter and he still writes a column on it from time to time. It seems a couple times posters replied that he was a lib some time back but don’t know if that was true.

Thusly I don’t know if there was a conversion to conservatism but he sure has written some hair curling columns on Obama, both before and after he was elected. LOL!

I figured he was dead by now honestly, he must be in his 80’s now but I don’t live in Philly anymore so I didn’t know what he was up to, guess retirement got boring.

no problem, happened to see an article about it a few days ago, apparently it’s SOP every year for the military to ask for more than they know they can get, then get whacked down. Guess everyone likes to call a lack of increased spending a cut when it’s their ox about to be gored.
