CA: Big job boost for California seen (Obama looking to California as bellwether for job creation)

WASHINGTON – President Barack Obama says the best way to judge his economic stimulus plan in the next two years will be whether it creates or saves 3 million to 4 million jobs.

And if the White House predictions are correct, no state will produce more jobs than California, which has been losing jobs faster than any other state.

More than 10 percent of the jobs – 421,000 – are forecast to come from the Golden State, which has a 9.3 percent unemployment rate, the fourth-highest in the nation and California's highest in 15 years. The state's loss of 78,200 jobs in December was the most of all 50 states, according to the Labor Department.

As Congress put the finishing touches on its $789 billion stimulus package this week, Obama has been busily selling it by touting its impact on individual states.

After flying to Indiana and Florida earlier this week, Obama took his motorcade Wednesday morning to a dusty construction site in Virginia, where he said his plan would create 100,000 jobs in Virginia alone.

"Across the country, states need help. And with my plan, help is what they will get," said Obama, standing next to Democratic Gov. Tim Kaine.

Obama said states are facing "acute new responsibilities" during the recession, with more people unemployed, signing up for Medicaid and requesting other government services. And at the same time, he said, people are spending less and earning less, which hurts government tax revenues.

Not surprising that California benefits most, since the bill was written in Pelosi’s office.

CA is increasing every tax and fee and virtually cutting nothing. From what I can see CA is slowing fast. I doubt things will turn around on this stimulus.

And you watch, they will be Gubermint Union jobs.

The budget deal on the table currently. 12 cent increase in gas tax, 1 cent increase in Sales Tax. 80% increase in car registration fee. Something to the effect of double taxation on something else....mind boggling

In two years. Right. Well, nitwit, America always recovers but not because of his stupid political feeding trough. It recovers because Americans will do it with or without his stupid bragging. Obama is a corrupt opportunists and will take credit for the works of others. He is as phony as a any con man.

Interesting.

The California legislature and gubernator just agreed to raise state taxes. They are busily chasing working people and anyone with money from the state. While the population of the state has grown, there has been a flight from the state of working people.

This is one of the revenue problems in California, huge underclass, shrinking working class, shrinking business growth. The state is nearly bankrupt now. It cannot pay its bills, it cannot borrow money, its bond rating is awful. The federal government is coming into the state to... give us more government. It would be funny if it wan't killing us.

I ask again, how would you calculate the number of jobs "saved"?

Easy. It's 3-4 million. Just take the number of jobs lost and say it would have been 3-4 million worse if not for barry.

Pretty soon their only recourse will be to tax the life out of Hollywood. LOL, that'll be fun to watch.

Yeah, there’ll be job creation - in the parasite (goobermint & leftist “non-profit”) areas.

Anyone in America who has a job in 2 years will have had his job saved by The One. With any luck, there should still be 3 - 4 million people working in that time frame.

[I ask again, how would you calculate the number of jobs “saved”?]

Obama says it is, I guess. The following question is posed by George Will:
“Should jobs “saved” by, say, protectionist policies that interfere with free trade be balanced against jobs lost when export markets are lost to retaliatory protectionism?”
[Link: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/12/03/AR2008120302890.html]

Apparently “jobs saved” is not an official Labor Dept statistic. Just another example of “change that you can believe in”.
