"...the legal issues in this case could bear on the United States' title to its own lands (in Hawaii) as well." (This refers to 330,000 acres of military and other federal properties located on the 1898 ceded lands which were not transferred to the State in the 1959 Admission Act.)

The article was written for a local audience so here is a little clarification: The 'ceded lands' case will determine whether the State of Hawaii owns the State Property it was given at Statehood or whether the property should be held for a future Hawaiian Indian Tribe. Also at risk, Pearl Harbor, Schofield and other US military bases.... 32 states have filed in support of Hawaii's appeal to SCOTUS. Oral argumewnts Feb 25. Failure of Hawaii to win this case would open the door to a 'tribal' land grab in all 50 states based on various state or congressional "apology" resolutions....

By tribal land grab, is that euphemism for “future casino site?”

Casinos are part of the Akaka Bill, but the more fundamental issue is a threat to US and State sovereignty. In particular a threat to legally seize US military bases.
They wouldn't really need casinos because the value of the Hawaii real estate is such that unlike most Indian Res. the Hawaiian Indians will have $billions in wealth.
They will use it to buy elections thanks to the fact that Tribes are exempt from campaign finance and disclosure regs.
Both Obama and Bill Clinton got their start with Hawaii Dems early-money contributions.

Actually, all lands are owned by the State, you may buy a home with a 99 year lease but not own the land in the sense that the mainland would. The Military would take precedent over any Hawaiian people (native Hawaiians).

No doubt the states will have standing -- it's only the American People that never have standing.
