RIYADH, Saudi Arabia – The Saudi king on Saturday dismissed the chief of the religious police and a cleric who condoned killing the owners of TV networks that broadcast "immoral" content, signaling an effort to weaken the country's hard-line Sunni establishment.

The shake-up — King Abdullah's first since coming to power in August 2005 — included the appointment of a female deputy minister, the highest government position a Saudi woman has attained.

Khashoggi said Faisal has been working behind the scenes on plans to reform education. After the Sept. 11 attacks, carried out by 19 Arabs, including 15 Saudis, many in the U.S. blamed the Saudi educational system for helping create an atmosphere that justifies extremism.

I can’t imagine the militant muslim whackadoos liking that one bit. I hope the Saudi King is well-protected.

They may well be afraid of the Persian menace from Iran. It is doubtful that KSA can survive two more years of low oil revenues. Reformation must occur, or the House of Saud will lose their grip on power. Egypt would love nothing more.

I Don't believe it, I don't believe it, I don't believe it. This must be a reference to the Wahabbi schools which brainwash children into the proper Jihad mentality.

It's like in Pakistan, where the shaky 'legimate' government has to appease the radicals which threaten to topple it, AND present an acceptable face to its Western allies. It's BS, because their mindset is stuck in medieval cruelty, Islamic puritanism and superstition.

Someday, barring internal reform, we will have to go to war with SA, Pakistan, Syria and Iran. Not a pleasant prospect, even though we could easily win, if we gave it our best effort. It's as if these countries are very cognizant of our reluctance to slaughter millions, and are counting of our high sense of morality to abate any military action against them, while they continue to infect our country, Europe and the world with their retrograde morality.
All in the name of 'freedom of speech and religion', which probably don't even translate into Arabic.

They perceive us as weak, and continue the guilt/shame offense calling us 'Christian crusaders', while defending their centuries-ingrained barbarism. Sheesh, what a world.

Hurriyyah fi al-kilaam wa al-din

It translates. But it's still a foreign concept over there.
