The term comes from a Dallas Morning News article about it, a number of years ago.
It is the open area bounded by Lubbock, Wichita Falls, Dallas, and west of that. Lots of open country, small dying towns, lots of cattle, and few people. Some oil production, and a growing number of windfarms.
Some of the counties have as little as 1200 people in them.
My county probably has just over 5,000 population.
Few in number but very friendly decent people who chose to live here.
OK Hiway 287, got it! ;9)
