The 72-Hour Bug Out Kit

The 72-hour Kit: Gotta Rosary for the run?

By Ben Fisher - Jesus Be With Us Published February 13th, 2009

In the event of an emergency, do you have a 72-hour or Bug-out Kit? Gotta Rosary for the run?

A 72-hour kit is a bag, bucket, or box of everything you will need (food, water, medicine, …) to survive 72-hours as you flee a natural disaster, terrorist event, or civil unrest.

The idea is that you should be able to get where you’re evacuating to within three-days, or that civil authorities (police, national guard, etc.) will have brought the unrest under control.

A good blog for those who think that preparing for the worst is somehow giving in to a survivalist mentality.

I do not intend to run.

But the idea of preparing for “field operation” might have some merit. I have lots of camping gear, but it is not organized. And commo gear.

We live in the “Big Nothing” in Texas, and the river breaks would be a natural for hiding and living off the land. Very possible.

But I cannot see that happening in Texas, no matter how insane the edicts from DC.

If the Military or the “0 security” forces are looking for you the open is the worst place to be. The US Military is very good at finding stuff in the open. Eric what's his name not withdstanding. If you have women and kids the open is suicide. Urban or other places with people where you can hide in plain sight are better.

Survival plan? We have, and it’s a hell of a lot safer than your 401k or your flood insurance policy provider or your credit card issuer.
The only thing we don’t have at 668 is an able-bodied male. Fortunately we live nearly surrounded by badass war veterans — WW2, Korea, Viet Nam, and Gulf. They would go down hard...but when the need arises we should be able to trap a few of them. ;)

I agree with you. My family and I were talking yesterday about some of this. Our concern is with Mexico imploding (and many more Mexicans coming here) and the recession or if it gets to a depression, fewer jobs, etc. people are going to be desperate and hungry and willing to do whatever to get what they need.

I found out this week about the number of gangs we have here (18 different ones) and those that are very dangerous gangs.

I will have no problem with defending myself or what I have. However, we are in town so living off the land could be a issue.

As high as 50% according to some studies. It is folly to think it will not happen. BTW there is very good evidence that the 0 security forces will be equipped and trained by contractors. Contractors will use Russian and other mercs who have no compunction about shooting Americans. One of the reasons to ramp the war in Afcrapistan is to keep the military occupied and out of country.

Remember it took 130,000 troops to suppress Iraq, a country the size of Texas ans with the population of Kalifornia.

It would depend. I dont think the National Guard would. Most USMC units wouldnt.
If Obama allows people from other countries to join, then that would be where the biggest problem would be. Or he could bring in NATO or UN troops to “secure” the Nuclear weapons or some other excuse.
UN and NATO would face the largest standing army, since there area lotsa of guns here, and people who are just looking for a reason to use them.

Fortunately, all of my ancestors possessed survivalist instincts or I would not be here. Furthermore, it is good that few others possess such survivalist instincts, thereby making it easier to cull those with week-kneed attitudes (mostly sniveling liberals seeking handouts) that make it easier for the rest of us who will never give up. Don’t be misled, there is nothing wrong with surviving, whatever it takes.

"The American public is unarmed by comparison".

100,000 armed and determined men could overthrow this nation if they had the support of the majority of the people.

The US Military MIGHT occasionally shoot (it would be rare and only to defend themselves IMHO) but their rules of engagement would be so severely restricted by the pu$$ys in DC that they wouldn't be very effective.

A questin I have pondered. Who would follow the orders of Hussein Obama to kill their fellow countrymen?? Time will tell—option 2 that has occurred based on the historical record, is to turn on obama and exercise the right of citizens to dispose of corrupt, tyrannical government—a duty and a right of every citizen. I would much prefer a military coup led by honorable men in uniform than having to follow a fool such as the current reigning Hussein. He is stealing our children’s future with this so-called stimulus con—this is tyranny.

I share your concern.

I think it is part of his plan:

“Cloward-Piven Strategy”

From: http://www.discoverthenetworks.org/groupProfile.asp?grpid=6967

“First proposed in 1966 and named after Columbia University sociologists Richard Andrew Cloward and Frances Fox Piven, the “Cloward-Piven Strategy” seeks to hasten the fall of capitalism by overloading the government bureaucracy with a flood of impossible demands, thus pushing society into crisis and economic collapse.”

“In their 1966 article, Cloward and Piven charged that the ruling classes used welfare to weaken the poor; that by providing a social safety net, the rich doused the fires of rebellion. Poor people can advance only when “the rest of society is afraid of them,” Cloward told The New York Times on September 27, 1970. Rather than placating the poor with government hand-outs, wrote Cloward and Piven, activists should work to sabotage and destroy the welfare system; the collapse of the welfare state would ignite a political and financial crisis that would rock the nation; poor people would rise in revolt; only then would “the rest of society” accept their demands.”

“The key to sparking this rebellion would be to expose the inadequacy of the welfare state. Cloward-Piven’s early promoters cited radical organizer Saul Alinsky as their inspiration. “Make the enemy live up to their (sic) own book of rules,” Alinsky wrote in his 1972 book Rules for Radicals. When pressed to honor every word of every law and statute, every Judaeo-Christian moral tenet, and every implicit promise of the liberal social contract, human agencies inevitably fall short. The system’s failure to “live up” to its rule book can then be used to discredit it altogether, and to replace the capitalist “rule book” with a socialist one. “

I have had one of these “kits” on hand for years, I built it up about eight years ago... they are easy to build and you just need update periodically (especially perishable stuff-Fresh Batts, MREs, water, personal meds, medical supplies, etc..). All the basics are contained in a back pack for easy carry and storage.

Separate kit for weapons, ammo, ghillie and other “tactical” supplies...
