"That is what the Romans said, it worked out really well."

That's exactly what came to my mind too. On the face of it this sounds ok, but I have a bad feeling.

Just a question, how is this different than the E5 Phillipino cook we had on board a USCG ship that was not a citizen and he always got 100% of his withholding tax back as a refund in :::: 1975

When he was to retire, he would get the same benefits as I if he stayed in for the 20.

When I was in the service back in the 60s aboard a ship the stewards were all Filipino's they would serve their time and be granted citizenship when their tour was over.

Fergit the “educational” bs—pick up the American kids 17, 18, 19-year olds out there who will make damn good Soldiers, Sailors, Marines, and Airmen!!!!!!!!!! Just as these young Americans have always been the best of the best thru WW II, Korea and Nam

The average age of WW-II soldiers was 26, in Vietnam it was around 22. The better educated, were slightly more likely to be killed, but only because officers were more likely to be killed, especially pilots, and they were on average more educated.

The Marines who were killed in Vietnam did tend to be younger than their Army brothers, the average age was of a USMC infantryman(0351> was about 20 1/2 compared to 22 1/2 for an Army 11B.

Even in WW-II the troops tended to be better educated than was true of their age group as a whole.

I'm around soldiers every day, mostly officers but not entirely, and they are good people, regardless of any previous education. I will say that the officers, if not academy Grads, tend to be from "lessor" state schools (includes Mustangs too) and many of the enlisted are more than just high school grads.

Because the Philipines was once a US territory, they do get special consideration. This seems to be mostly the Navy, I didn't know the CG did it too. I never saw any Filipino cooks in the Air Force. There was one of the guys who I went through AFROTC field training with, who was from a Filipino family, but AFAIK, he was a citizen, in fact he had to be, because non citizens cannot be officers. He was our flight's fire warden, the only position that did not change occupants during the encampment. We had lots of flight commanders, first sergeants, and Squadron staff types, but only one fire warden per flight. Ours had a name that made him sound like an Italian Apache. :)

Unlace Your Boots!

That's for you Gerry

Compared to what this looks like, Mexican recruits would be a good thing.

"in particular to have languages useful in combat zones like Afghanistan and Iraq. "

This screams a large Muslim fifth column in our military. Who would have thought President Hussein would do something like this? /s
