We know that most lawmakers did not read the spending bill before they voted on it and it appears that Barack Obama didn't either. Despite the president's continued claims that there are no earmarks in the bill, Politico.com is reporting that $8 billion have been allocated for high-speed rail grants to select states.
This news was welcomed by Nevada Senator Harry Reid, who has lobbied for a Las Vegas to Los Angeles railway for years. A spokesman from Harry Reid's office, however, denied this was an earmark, saying the funds are for competitive grants that would be awarded by the transportation secretary. He went on to say that "the proposed Los Angeles-Las Vegas rail project would be eligible to receive funds."
So in Senator Reid's defense, he's right, it's not an earmark yet. The money has only been earmarked for an earmark.......
A potential benefit of the economic recession: The Wall Street Journal reports that illegal immigrants who have jumped the U.S. border in unprecedented numbers over the past several years are turning back around. That's right, the scarcity of jobs in the U.S. is causing illegal immigrants who have been especially hard hit by the economic downturn to head back to their homeland.
Not only that, these immigrants are registering their children, many of whom were born in the United States and who are therefore U.S. citizens, for Mexican citizenship. The Mexican Consulate received 12,000 more applications from Mexicans registering their American-born children for citizenship over a six-month period last year than over the same period the year before.
Hey, if we can't get our own government to enforce the law, at least some illegal aliens are taking care of the problem for us.

With this democrat regime, we are all on a train to nowhere.
A train wreck to nowhere ....
See and I didn't even have to volunteer to drive one bus load of illegals to the border! More time to work on my garden.
“With this democrat regime, we are all on a train to nowhere.”
Indeed, henkster, indeed.
Anybody who has driven I-15 from Vegas to the LA basin knows what the traffic can be like (particularly around Barstow). That being said, adding a couple of lanes to I-15 would likely be a LOT more economical.
Reid is a full-on Weasel............... but the Train idea has always been a good one. It’s not Reid’s idea. He couldn’t think of anything like that. It’s been an idea for at least 25 years after BART was being built. Don’t know how we’ll pay for it........but it would be very cool.
$8 Billion huh, aw shucks, that’s pocket change. No problem, a billion here, a billion there, and pretty soon your talking about some real money. . . (Gag!)
Like the LA subway, it might work out to be cheaper to buy every potential train rider between LA and Vegas a new Mercedes Benz.
Harry might as well start the train at the border.

I can’t get that old phrase out of my head! Remember when a million $$ actually meant something??
The environmental impact studies will take years, many cities in Orange, Riverside and San Bernardino Counties want stops or "not in my backyard".
Here in San Diego power lines across the desert were held up for years and even after is was passed the wacko-enviros were afraid that "Dirty Electricity (coal fired) from mexico might run the the green wires
sad but true! Dollar backed by Gold at the International Governmental Price!
They just never quit, do they?
Here’s the killer line:
(3) reforming and rationalizing avenues for legal immigration.
AMNESTY
Thing is a private company, Desert XPress, is building a high-speed train between LA and VEGAS. This is a publicity ploy to help Harry get re-elected next year, but people in NV are starting to get HR fatigue... we can take that seat with some hard work on the part of the RNSC and RNC.
Naw, we got our share already....just one of the reasons I left California (born and raised)
