Well said...but can you imagine sitting in that little room for 10 hours while he's making $58 per hour?
I can't even understand the State's claim to require all sorts of jumping through the hoops to carry a concealed weapon. Especially not the one-size-fits-all approach. A felony automatically makes it a crime for you to posses a firearm. How you use a firearm should determine if a crime has been committed. Why does a convicted felon have any less need to protect his family and property?
Anyway, I would really like to show this guy some support.
Unfortunately, those who would brand the police in this sort of situation as criminals (committing assault for no legitimate reason in this case) are often branded as anarchists, when the real anarchists are the lawless "police".
The Thirteenth Amendment allows convicted felons to be regarded as slaves of the state, so at least for the term of their sentence I see no constitutional problem with disarmament. Parolees have essentially no rights beyond what the state chooses to give them; if a parolee does not wish to have a rights-restricted life outside of prison, he may opt to serve out his full term in prison.
GCA'68, however, goes far beyond what is Constitutionally legitimate. Too bad nobody in power seems to care about the Constitution.
I was a photographer for a major daily newspaper. Over the years I witnessed a steady increase in the hassle I could expect when trying to do spot or breaking news. Depended entirely on the individual scene. One time you could shoot all you wanted, the next time you were hassled. You never knew which to expect.
Intimidation is often the tool of choice for officers on a scene. They know they can tell you something and if you don’t do it they can handcuff you and place you in their car. Or, they can arrest you and lock you up. Even if their order is patently illegal or unfounded you are committing a new and separate crime if you don’t obey, without question. A lot of them are very reasonable and will work with you, but a few are just the opposite. Problem is, you don’t always know which is which. And by the time you figure it out you might well find yourself handcuffed and locked in a police car. Your chances of getting justice in this case are nil. It’s expensive as hell to fight them in court. My paper wouldn’t lift a finger to help you. They would fire you if you went outside their legal team to fight it.
Thank God, literally, I’m no longer finding myself in that position.
Well put. In every aspect of our lives we are being incrementalized to death. Taxes, control over our private property, laws against spitting on the street. The list goes on and on.
Reprehensible cop behavior ping.
Whatever happened to the motto “to protect and serve”...?
What’s next, “shoot first and ask questions later”?
Good thing he didn’t have a dog with him. Poor thing’s presence might have made that cop fear for his life.
Remember the Soviet constitution supposedly guaranteed freedom of religion, etc. But in practice.....?
It appears the neighbor called the police and turned in his neighbor. Not the type of neighbor I'd want anywhere near me.
Every now and then, we are treated to a brilliant comment.
Yours is one.
We've already had a few such incidents here in GA this year, one of which has turned into a Federal Civil Rights Lawsuit against the Sheriffs Dept. and the Deputy's involved, and the other looks like it might be on its way to the same end...
Get in the Fight before the Fight comes to you!
A holstered weapon in his OWN YARD?
What country is this?
Don't worry. That's coming too.
Rev. 6
[5] And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.
[6] And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
“They have not yet assimilated. “
You’d better hope I never do! :)
This case will be thrown out, eventually. It may go to the WSC, but I doubt it’ll get that far.
I grew up in West Allis among those first generation Germans and Poles. Every home had a gun or two. Mine included.
Ping
He continued to testify that by Mr. Krause wearing a gun visible to the public, that created a disturbance, and that was disorderly, so Mr. Krause was therefore arrested for Disorderly Conduct While Armed.
That was the best part. Carrying a gun is in itself considered causing a disturbance, and since you have the gun you are creating a distubance while armed. Talk about a Catch 22.
So if the state acknowledges the right to carry openly, and if carrying openly is a disturbance, i guess the state is giving you the right to creat a disturbance while armed. This guy is going to be SO rich.
Cleveland is definitely a hot throbbing pocket of Eastern European authoritarianism ~ but many of the Germans in Souvrn’ Ohio had ancestors from the Westernmost areas, or even from France.
