Doha: The new US Administration is making efforts to reach out to the Muslim World and with an ‘interventionist’ President and a ‘non-obstructionist’ Congress it is expected to be more proactive.
This was at least the overall consensus among the panelists who addressed a session on the ‘Obama Administration and the Muslim World’ at the US-Islamic Word Forum which concluded here yesterday. The panel discussion was moderated by Senior Diplomatic Correspondent and Political Analyst at Dar Al Hayat, Raghida Dergham.
US Congressman Keith Ellison, one of the panelists, said: “Only time will tell. I don’t believe the Congress is going to be obstructionist. But in a democracy you have various constituencies’ interests at work and particularly when it comes to the issue of the Middle East, different people have different perspectives.”
“However, the recent trip of US top officials in the region can be seen as an effort to reach out to the Muslim World.”
As to whether President Barak Obama needs to be more ‘interventionist’ in tackling the region’s problems, Jackson Diehl, Deputy Editorial Page Editor at The Washington Post, another panelist said the new US President has already intervened in the first few days of his presidency.
“He had announced the new way forward to Muslim World based on mutual interest and mutual respect,” he said.

In the 50s, 60s and 70s you could go into a doctors office, hospital or store and everyone spoke English...There was no press 1 for English, there were no tens of thousands of violent illegal alien gang members roaming our cities and towns. All the television channels were in English. I could go on.
